Books are dangerous. People are swayed by books, books do this all the time, this is not something unheard of. How is this so inconceivable? People have read books like The God Delusion, Das Kapital, the Bible and have assented to the positions of the text because of it, so swayed are they of its rhetoric or its forcefulness or its supposed ‘facts AND logic’. If a priest believes in what they think is the Truth, then that priest has every reason to suppress in his parish that which could teach things contrary to the Truth and endanger faith and morals.

I believe Christianity, particularly Catholicism, is the Truth, but that has nothing to do with the post. I begin the final sentence with an ‘if’, as in, the priest believes that Catholicism is the Truth, therefore it is his duty to protect his parish and the faithful from that which teaches contrary to the Truth, to protect them from that which endangers faith and morals.

Presumably something to do with witchcraft and magic, probably something to do with morals. Either way, you’re underestimating the importance of fiction and media forms in the formation and development of peoples beliefs.
