Water? Please, we're not even close to that. We're setting up the base. Which requires shoveling sand and hauling heavy ass blocks in 90 degree heat.

90 degrees. That's about 30 in logical units. 30 degrees isn't even that hot. It was 26 here last week, and we're a week away from winter

Aussie (while I'm not a mod), I was wondering why you don't combine responses to two or more people into one post to save on double-posting.

Watched the last season of Game of Thrones yesterday. Rushed as hell. Atleast only one character on my shitlist survived, so it wasn't a total loss.

CBD is CBD oil. A component found in cannabis, which is the part of the weed that helps a lot with stress and anxiety. It's the calming part of the plant.

Unless you live somewhere like Coober Pedy or Birdsville there is no logical way anyone, even an Aussie, can say 30 degrees ain't hot.

Today in class a little girl was very very sad and cried because the original teacher was not here

she was very sad and upset and I had to comfort and calm her down, as a result of her efforts to do the work in spite of the adjustment, I gave her the Bonus Sticker of the Day

Does anyone have a SIMPLE (but time consuming and interesting project) that they can think of that involves Magical/Mythical Creatures that can last 3 hours????

The best that I can come up with is that the class creates a set of cards with different stats of Magical Creatures and then plays Top Trump vs each other after we as a class talk about each and every single one of the cards and the creatures on them

By simple I mean that non-artistic 8 year olds can do it

Unpopular opinion: Nobody's eating processed food these days because it's all been recategorised as "ultra-processed."

What's a Memorial Day?

I spent it drinking and getting stoned with a bunch of Canadians and swimming in a pool. Almost made up for the 34c and 90% humidity that Florida has been for the last three days.

Sounds like a fun mini-vacation. Thank the troops.

“Success” = getting a bunch of kids to successfully color and paste together some craft?

Well I’m glad I’m so close to capital S Success in life

It’s a very flattering description of a bunch of young kiddos cutting and pasting

I think you’re maybe over glorifying it

A lot of people just don't read multiple post posts. Or, at least, it's possible to take this too far and that's what causes people to not read them. But I am unrepentant. I do not change!

You can probably ignore the rest of this post... it's mostly just ego-maniacal blathering. But it ends with an absolutely hilarious joke. Death from laughter guaranteed!

For example... here's some group feedback from 2014:

he tries to write the answers for the team and takes charge is a good thing (he does occasionally ask others to write), I also believe that a bit more variety in our answers would be much better. I think that though he clearly respects everyones [sic] views the answer gets restricted to the ideas of the person with the pen.

Whereas here's some more feedback from earlier this week:

showed great leadership in our group, though I felt he did take over a bit, particularly when it came to the brief.

Same problem right?

Actually, with this latter group I could have let them do it by themselves a bit more. With the former one if you read my feedback for them you notice the recurring theme of "[group member] may find it rewarding to write an application exercise." The problem is that we end up with such problems as "inconsistent references" or "slightly over time limit".

I'm a terrible team person. There's a thing I read once on Inside Higher Ed where the lecturer had a team task and didn't want to randomly assign membership (a la 2014 group) or let the students form their own groups. The solution they had was to have the students describe who they were as team members or something like that. One description ran to the effect of "tyrant seeking minions". That's me.*

*Actually, honestly, I suspect the person who wrote the more recent feedback is the other group member who I'd describe as being exactly the same as me. I probably wrote way too much feedback but one of my lines to this person was "I do worry none of these dominant presences did enough to preclude the possibility of crowding out other group members." Of course, this is why I think this person gave me the same feedback.

It is much better to slowly subsume control from under the feet of the original controllers.

With that group stuff above... it's actually less that I'm a tyrant from the outset and more that I'm a bit more like the Kingpin.* My modus operandi is to slowly assume control of the group. In this latter case, by the time we were up to the presentation they were dancing entirely to my tune. We made my idea for the video, with my co-authored script and under my favoured functional silo approach. This is, of course, even worse group behaviour but it passes for "functioning team member".

(How do I seemingly take over groups when I'm such a terrible communicator? (Honestly, ask anyone here.) Simple. I have the idea we actually need at the time we actually need it and they don't. First come, first serve. While they were quibbling over what we'd make the video with I actually engaged with the real question of what the video would be.)

*I make this comparison because there's an issue where the Kingpin reflects on his life story. From a young age he learnt to watch patiently and observe the rules of the game (originally it was literally a game but soon it was a metaphor) and then with that understanding he would rise to a position of power.

Went to the Waitrose in Canary Wharf yesterday because the internet told me this very specific good was only sold there.

Man, that place was like a reverse Walmart, but only of the extremely rich. It felt like some of those people might be carrying my life's savings worth in cash.

Oh, and they didn't have that specific thing so screw Waitrose for giving me false hope!
