I'm not up on what these things cost but I would expect replacing the screen to be a bit pricey. That sucks.

Counting the price I bought the laptop for two months ago and the price of the screen replacement, I've spent over $1,000 on this laptop.

So here's to hoping there's not anymore problems with it until I inevitably need to replace it in 4 years.

Depending on the computer and what its use is (Dell vs Apple vs etc...., Gaming vs work, and so on...), prices can range from $100 just for labor up to $1000 for parts and other work.

$550 for my new motherboard.

It's been ~2 weeks and I still don't know if it's done.

Mine's been gone for a week, I've been told they ordered parts and I need to go to a Best Buy and pay the charges before they continue working on my laptop.

I think the minimum they charge - if they send it off to their service center - is $199 for diagnostics. So you're not getting out of Best Buy cheap.

Honestly, when I move back to Asheville I'm planning on buying a nice desktop - it's gonna be sweet.

This is why you look for local shops, cause the one I went to didn't charge me anything for diagnostics.

Or I could memorize the fundamental theorems of Calculus, go back in time, kill everyone who invented calculus, and then invent calculus. Yesss, this is a good plan.

A dangerous game you'd be playing there. You'd get students from the future coming back in time trying to kill you to get out of calculus on a regular basis.

By that point I'll have mastered their game and outplay them effortlessly.

Geek Squad is pretty awful about overcharging. When I had to replace my laptop's harddrive, I noticed they charged something like $70 for the courtesy of installing Chrome and the like.

At that point... I think a newer laptop might be better.

I had a VAIO which I carelessly dropped. The casing was 20% damaged, like the SD card and some of the slots were damaged, and there were cracks on the case, but otherwise, the laptop was functional.

They wanted $600 to fix the entire thing.

So I started saving up and shopped for a new laptop, and didn't look back since... well, the old laptop actually now has some use now that I nuked and installed Linux on it. Bottom line is... yeah, easier said than done, but I think you're better off looking for a new laptop. The specs will be pretty cool too!

That's right, it's ya boi right here.

Build a time machine and kill Newton and Leibniz. Then there won't be a calculus to fail.

What if the flux capacitor needs calculus to function?

Then we'll just have to wait for someone from the future to send us a time machine phone booth so we can bring back Newton, pass calculus, and win the battle of the bands. It'll be excellent.

I remember writing the AP Calculus exam so long ago and getting a 5.

I could always get these high grades in all these math classes but somehow I COMPLETELY SUCKED (and still suck today) at mathematics

If I recall correctly, I even found the class kind of enjoyable (though nowhere near as fun and enjoyable as AP World History, that class was a BLAST)

When I was at school we just had a big splodge called Maths (usually a double lesson, because every kid loves double maths). So I like to imagine that this calculus is an platypus-like magical creature that possesses calculators.

We seem to have inherited that from your side of the pond; there was A-Maths and Maths and, since I was in the top stream, we just had those periods squished together most of the time.

A-Maths? Now there's a cynical attempt to get to the top of the alphabetical list for funding tiebreaks.

I mean, true... but also, would you want your top A+ student to be studying Z-Maths or something like that? :P

Z-Maths sounds perfect; a superpowered version that you have to use the power of friendship and a weird battle pose to deploy.

Better log out and return to the trees, then. The internet would not be possible without advanced mathematics.
