A lot of people don't like it because they've noticed a certain trend where remakes are replacing famously red-headed characters with black people in order to score diversity points, while edging out one of the smallest minorities in the US (And the US has the largest number of red heads in the world).

Now that I think about it red heads are rare to see as main characters.

Plus Ariel is such an iconic character (Not sure if more or as iconic like Mickey Mouse or Snow White, but she is up there) that seeing a remake made into live-action and the titular character is not a red head, I'm sure people would not be pleased either way. Plus remakes of classic cartoons are just not a good idea imo.

I’m not a fan of Disney animation. I prefer movies with real humans acting in them. Disney’s remake of Aladdin was the first non-action film I watched in years. That’s how interesting it was. If it was an animation, I’d definitely not even have considered it. Is that weird?

Now that I think about it red heads are rare to see as main characters in live action movies anyway.

It also doesn't help that most red heads and gingers are white, so if they call stuff like that out they're seen as racist. Even though most of their ancestors have faced racism in America, because Irish and other European peoples weren't seen as white and thus faced the same segregation and institutional problems as black people did.

So yeah, it's complicated.

Yes. Watch animated films, there is an amazing back catalogue of them from all over the globe and they are great. Besides if you watch a marvel movie these days you're basically watching an animated film.

Disney still does make animated films though, CG ones. You know, a technology that's infamous for becoming outdated every single year and doesn't last anywhere near as long as 2d animation.
