Conserative Morality wrote:"It's not time yet" is a tactic used by reactionaries in every era. "It's not time for democracy, it's not time for capitalism, it's not time for emancipation." Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

"I have a prior commitment".

I utilized "No, I am not available on Monday" as suggested by a Twitter friend. They also made it clear that my reply should have no explanation, apology, or excuse for why I can't be present because simply I'm not supposed to be working Mondays.

My whole thing is the weekend shift needs to get their own backup clerk. I'll be the backup - like I am all this week - to fill in for the usual clerk on my shift. That's in my job description, when I agreed to train in the clerical functions and serve as the backup for my shift's clerk I accepted the responsibility of filling in when she's out. Filling in for another shift's clerk is not my responsibility, they should have their own backup clerk.

Secondly, if I said yes I would have immediately become the go-to person every time they needed somebody to do that and I am not going to be that person, sorry not sorry.

But, I rejoice in the sense of empowerment saying "no" gave to me. Because I'm so used to just saying yes and being a pushover but it felt amazing to take a stand and say no when I had the full right to say no.

His follow-up question to my saying "no" was asking if I could do it Saturday or Sunday next weekend. I again said no, repeating my "I'm not available those days" line but I could have used the "the mountains are calling and I must go" line there since I'm planning a day trip to the mountains that weekend.

Missed opportunity, really.

Apartment block I live in is being repainted. Not the most interesting thing.

I woke up just now to about five men, on a platform, all chatting about as they rolled their rollers outside my bedroom window.

So... slightly surreal. Worse still being that the bedroom is a thin looking room.

Machines are great. Part of me still suspects that all this stuff about electricity and internal circuits are elaborate excuses and that the people selling this stuff are wizards.

You might be onto something; this laptop I'm on does feel like a strange magical force sometimes.

Namely that it's sometimes an uncontrollable mess... and I guess Windows updates, that fits into it somewhere.

I'm actually a "have coffee and sugar and milk but no water, and spend a really long time having to mix it as a result" kinda person. But I also see the appeal in dumping it with milk and whipped cream.
