Real reason: Work implemented a weekend shift and a lot of our work throughout the week typically comes from containers and trailers dropped during the weekend. Before last weekend there was nobody here on the weekend to deal with those containers and trailers so we'd have lots of work Monday, Tuesday, and even through to Thursday, Friday would be our slowest day. Now, with a weekend shift, those people are handling everything that gets dropped on the weekend which means when we come back after the weekend there's literally nothing for us to work on.

Volunteer for the weekend shift? Tell him you need the hours, you'll work on the weekends if that's what it takes. Come on, you're young, there will be plenty of weekends when you're old and decrepit like Ethel.

This is a better call. If they're dropping hours it won't be long before they're dropping staff.

Had a two-hour meeting with a guy in the U.S. who barely seemed to know what he was talking about, or was just really confused.

Nobody understood what he was getting at, so we're giving it another go on Monday.

That's what me and the others in my department/shift have been discussing for the past few days. We can't play these games, so we're job hunting.

Oh, our manager has already told our supervisor and our team lead that there are too many employees in our department and on our shift. Which further solidifies why the weekend shift doesn't make sense - since the "we have too many employees" comment was before they hired a weekend shift. And our shift got a new person this week too.

I'm not understanding the "we have too many employees" statement while also hiring more employees.

The only good part about this is I could sleep in this morning, since I only bill for 8 hours and I'm completely dependent on those people in the US for my work at the moment.

Says the immortal.

Which galleon did you take to get to the new world again?

Across the North Atlantic on a galleon? Are you insane? Those things wallowed like ... I wouldn't go aboard a galleon if she were taken apart, dragged inland, and reconstructed miles from the sea. I sailed to America the first time in 1875, on the SS Celtic (White Star line). I was still sick for most of the voyage.

Horribly. That's why I walked everywhere for 17,000 years. Get on your coracle? No, thanks. Trireme? Is that thing even safe? I mean, I could deal with crossing the Channel or the Irish Sea or short trips on the Mediterranean, but the Atlantic? Have you seen that thing?

When the course is laid and the anchor's weighed
A sailor's blood begins racing
With our hearts unbound and our flag unfurled
We're under way and off to see the world
Under way and off to see the world

Hey ho we'll go
Anywhere the wind is blowing
Manly men are we
Sailing for adventure on the deep blue sea

Danger walks the deck we say what the heck
We laugh at the perils we're facing
Every storm we ride is its own reward
And people die by falling overboard
People die by falling overboard

Hey ho we'll go
Anywhere the wind is blowing
Hoist the sails and sing
Sailing for adventure on the big, blue wet thing

I love to see 'em cry when they walk the plank
I prefer to cut a throat
I love to hang 'em high and watch their little feet try to walk in the air while their faces turn blue
Just kidding
It's a good life on a boat

There are distant lands with burning sands
That call across the oceans
There are bingo games every fun-filled day
And Margaritas at the midnight buffet
Margaritas at the midnight buffet

Hey ho we'll go
Anywhere the wind is blowing
Should have took a train
Sailing for adventure on the bounding main

The salty breezes whisper
Who knows what lies ahead
I just know I was born to live the life my father lead
The stars will be our compass
Wherever we may roam
And our mates will always be
Just like a family
And though we may put into port, the sea is always home

We'll chase our dreams standing on our own
Over the horizon to the great unknown

Hey ho we'll go
Anywhere the wind is blowing
Bold and brave and free
Sailing for adventure
It's so nauseating
Sailing for adventure
So exhilarating
Sailing for adventure
We're all celebrating!
On the deep blue sea
