Everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt. The majoirty of Marxist-Leninists call themselves Marxist-Leninists. I've met plenty of Socialists who claimed to support liberty, and when push came to shove, proved themselves truthful. Torra is one of them. Judge people based on what they're saying, not based on labels or associations.

That's one theoretical approach used by some Marxists. Honestly though it's not been at all the prevailing view in the field. Much more common, in my experience, is the view that anti-democratic actions are fundamentally counterrevolutionary.

The whole point with Socialism is overturning the political control of a minority (the Bourgeoisie) and replacing it with the that of the majority (the Proletariat). Majority rule sounds pretty democratic to me.

Fascism is a Reactionary response to this, at its core. A section of the Bourgeoisie doing away with Liberal draperies and deceiving a substantial enough mass of the population with a falsely constructed hierarchy that satisfies (at least in part, at least at first) the desire for liberation, without actually granting it; it's a conjuring trick, and the death rattle of Capitalism in free-fall.

Given Fascism's well-documented and inevitable oppressive violence, the prolificity of extremely deadly weapons (ie. Nukes, but not just Nukes), and its irrational desire to destroy what it cannot possess (eg. Hitler's desire to destroy everything as Germany was pushed back), it seems likely that, if not nipped in the bud, Fascism will wreak terrible damage upon the world and its people.

I'm well aware, and if all they did was believe in their hearts that free speech is bad then I wouldn't care and I doubt anyone else would either. But fascists seeking power, and seeking to build fascism, are people seeking to do away with free speech. And also many other very bad things, but my point is that keeping people from doing a fascism protects free speech in general.
