Contrary to what Alphabet wants us to believe, Google is not the Internet, and Google isn't the World Wide Web either.
Same applies to Facebook.

No but they are the biggest companies on the web.

Now, if those big companies can't afford to comply, what does that mean for all the smaller companies with less money?

That no one will bother going after them very often, not enough money in it.

Exactly what it says. A few more articles and the EU will be the undemocratic opressive shithole europhiles desire it to be.

The fees by smaller businesses won't be as high, considering the amount of space Google occupies in the web.

Still, I don't know, what is truth about this article, and what is just panic. I have some feeling, that this all won't "Destroy the internet", or even disrupt status quo too much, because otherwise it will backfire. Or it's not a gut feeling and just some hopeful thoughts to calm down?

There are too many things and factors in economy tied to it, and the following can happen (those are just my guesses):
>It will be impossible to enforce and thus forgotten.
>It will be enforced partially and folks will have many loopholes.
>Damage to economy from such rush decision will be bad, and this article will be cancelled before it's too late.
>Maybe, just maybe, we misunderstood something, and when it comes to action, we won't notice this.
>EU already has enough problems (Ya' know, yellow wests, refugee crisis, rise of sceptics and populists, Brexit and many other thingies.) and possibly on brink of collapse (My wild guess, may have nothig to do with reality), so such an unpopular decision may make it less trustworthy, cause some members to leave, or even EU will dissolve (Unlikely).
>Piracy skyrockets.
>Perhaps EU domains gonna become as cheap as dirt. And useless as... ummm... Article 13.
>Add you own theory.

And of course I missed with all the guesses...

So the internet is officially dead. This won't stay just in Europe. It's gonna come over here in some form eventually. The free internet is now a thing of the past.

Aside from a lot of Euro YouTubers I follow and tons of European fanartists and writers I'm friends with possibly losing access to basic websites.

And again, this will come here eventually when our greedy ass government sees how much money this makes the Brit government. The internet is over.

The country that's leaving the EU is going to make money from the EU's copyright law?

RIP The European Internet.
she/her
NS stats are not accurate.

The Republic of the Popular Councils of Neo Kerala is a Marxist-Leninist-Maoist state. Founded in 1948 after our NatDem Revolution, we took the side of the PRC and Marxism-Leninism (Mao Zedong Thought) during the Sino-Soviet split. After the Hua-Deng coup, we joined the RIM, and followed the shining path of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism. We struggled against old and modern revisionism and uphold the Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, mainly Maoism, also held by our Comrades in Peru, Turkey and Brazil, and support the PPWs in India and the Philippines. Long Live People's War! People's War until Communism!

(All ideologies used by this nation is held by this nation alone and does not necessarily represent actual beliefs held or not held by me.)

Well first of all, I'll admit that I don't know a heckovalot about Article 13 but I'm reasonably sure it doesn't restrict access to websites or if that enforcement mechanism is a thing it won't be enforced all that often. Basic sites like Google and Twitter can easily afford to shell out the ducats to keep raking in money from European markets if that's what you're concerned about.

Also this isn't the Brit government. It's the European Union.

Point is, Europe is killing their internet and we'll follow suit eventually, one of the oldest governments in history. Hell, we already killed net neutrality. Just a matter of time.

Tbf, the British government is a famous government known around the world. The EU is a semi-alliance and semi-organized government that governs countries. The two are neither the same or share similarities, how you mixed them up is beyond me.

Europe will find that they will likely not be able to dictate everything on the internet. Europeans do not have the jurisdiction to dictate what other country companies/citizens put on the internet, and a legal debate will likely ensue when a European company tries to sue a US one, a legal debate in our favor tbh.

Considering SCOTUS has declared itself the highest law in representing US interests, I think it'd be a tad biased. :P

I don't like it mainly because it's from the EU, but also because I don't want to be impacted by a foreign power. I don't even live on the same continent, and now they decide to make a law that impacts something shared by everyone in the world?

I’d take it over any European court. Being that it atleast keeps us interests, albeit polarized in mind.
