Then allow me to impart on you a major historical insight: Buddhism comes from India.
Minzerland II wrote:And why is that?

For a number of reasons, both religious and secular. One of the most basic is that I think there is something psychologically unhealthy about a society which celebrates the killing of people who cannot resist. It desensitizes us and makes us regard human life much less, which is a scary prospect in an age of automatic weaponry.

It didn't so much offend as confuse me, because of it's seemingly utterly irrelevancy to what was being said.

My views have fluctuated quite a bit, when I first got involved in politics a couple of years back, I was a Berniecrat socdem, I spent some time as a tankie, but by far my darkest days had to be my “social justice” days. And now I’m an ambivalent and apathetic Trot.

Also false. There are many ways to justify capital punishment. I use the Shari'ah justification.

I don't understand why people ask questions and then answer them themselves without knowing the answer. If you're just gonna make up something then don't ask a question. On top of that, why did you say "arbitrary"? I didn't even say how much or anything yet. As for your questions:

The victim's family

Idk, I'd have to look that up.

I mean, once we know how much is supposed to be paid we'd know how much to pay.

Wobbling about a bit between different "flavours" of politics with similarish principles but differences in emphasis of those principles and different means of carrying them out is fairly normal. We live in societies where the current centre-ground is slightly-more-regulated capitalism or less-regulated-capitalism. Add into the mix that everyone keeps constantly repeating the mantra that nothing different is possible, and it's an environment rife to produce doubt in all but those with the deepest-dug bunkers.

Technically speaking in the original hebrew it translates as something more like "thou shalt not kill without just cause" iirc.

1. The death penalty could be argued to be murder.

It's not:
"the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another."

The death penalty is neither unlawful or very premeditated.

I used to be for the death penalty, but as my political stances shifted more and more onto the pragmatic side, I see the pointlessness of executing somebody that has already been disarmed and detained, effectively rendering him harmless.

Forced labour would be a far more efficient use of their lives anyways.

I like how in a conversation on the death penalty you still somehow manage to pull the worst response out by far by promoting slavery.

How about we clone potential death row inmates and use these clones for forced labor and the death penalty?

Yugoslavia's back baby...

How the hell did this happen?
Well...we don't actually know. Sure, there's factbooks and stuff, but they don't really matter because the owner of this account is a lazy, unproductive, indecisive loser who may or may not have a thing for half human hybrids, big mechs and even bigger ships.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Who knows, who cares?
New Yugoslavia just is.
