Amazing.

I was there, Torra. I saw it IRL.

Macri was giving his press conference. Nobody knew the numbers yet because the (outsourced) vote counting system had apparently crashed. We were dying for anything. Any hard data, or even an estimate. And one journalist finally got to ask and it was... just...

Polling the days before these primaries gave Fernández a lead of somewhere between four and seven points. Maybe less. So she asked him. Was Fernández actual lead larger than four points? Larger than seven points?

An Macri, with a look in his eyes that was just begging to be Curb your enthusiasm'ed, mumbled: larger than ten.

Nothing necessarily... but in Argentina's case, liberalism is forced to carry with it the baggage of 90s liberalism, which is the least fun kind of liberalism.

In all seriousness... yeah... Trotskyists are basically the only consistent and relatively significant left-wing movement left here. And tbh, were they anything other than Trotskyists, they could actually be great. They have a cool platform for the most part. It's just that their commitment to ideological consistency and purity and never being hypocritical and never compromising in their ideals has the downside that most people will, understandably, think of them as little more than dirty Castro-sympathizing hippies.

Every other non-Peronist left-wing movement either turned neoliberal-ish or just got yeeted into nothingness during the 20th century by the Radicals, the Peronists and the military.

A question is though... Did the people more vote for Fernandez or more against Macri?

Trotskyism is like protestantism: there's something for everyone. And if there isn't in your little grouplet, SPLIIIIIIT
Well, put simply, trotskyists run the gamut of quite decent blokes to fairly crazy, simply because there's so many of them with many different interpretations and politics. Not usually bonkers insane though, that's Mao territory.
