Do we have to call him a senator, he didn’t get there on merit. Can’t we call him “a minor hiccup in our preference system.”

It’s accurate, it’s fair, and Australia doesn’t get too shamed by his existing.

I'm only aware of Fraser Anning existence because he got egg'ed.

Anning should get rightfully fucked with upper house preference flows; he's that toxic that most other parties will probably put him at the bottom of the list. But there's a slim chance that 2% of Queenslanders are that fucked in the head that they'll elect a legitimate nazi enthusiast into the upper house.

Pretty sure the meth addiction rate is higher than 2% up here. So there’s that to worry about.
We may accept the Pauline Hanson level of racist up here, but I remember after Romper Stomper came out the level of community organisation in finding and flogging wanna be Nazis. It really brought us together, I kinda miss those days.

People here just vote Liberal for economic reasons, they don't like Tony's conservative views. Plus Zali clearly has a lot of money behind her, so she has a lot of support.

He'll need much more than 2% of the vote to be re-elected to the Senate, even on favourable preference flows. I think the final Queensland seat will go to either Malcolm Roberts or Clive Palmer, with Palmer being the favourite given ON's recent scandals and the fact that the UAP secured a preference deal with the LNP.

Nasty, this: https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2019-05- ... s/11082774

I mean, people have been running bottom drawer ugly campaigns against her ever since she first popped up, but still. Maybe the Libs should withdraw from the seat, just to make they don't profit from this stuff. :eyebrow:

Voted early today (1st preference to ALP in the House, 1st preference to Sustainable Australia in the Senate) - much easier than standing in the queue on election day. Should be an interesting election night. Seems like the election will be won or lost in Victoria this time.

On a side note, I feel like every Australian should try to work at a local/state/territory/federal election at least once in their lives. Not working at the election this time, but have done so several times before. Definitely a fun and interesting experience.

They won't withdraw but they've lost whatever hope they had to regain Wentworth. I have no idea why Sportsbet has the Liberal Party as the favourite there.

Because they're a betting organisation and not political pundits?

Anyway, if Kerryn Phelps could win against a relatively popular Liberal candidate, surely Zali Steggall could win against Tony Abbott?

Wentworth is THE seat of the socially-minded fiscally-conservative Liberal. They threw their toys out of the sandpit last year when their man was deposed by Abbott and Dutton because Turnbull-liberals despise those types. But now that the Nighwatchman was voted in as PM instead and Bill looks set to strip them of their tax breaks, all will be forgotten and they'll be out in force to make sure it goes back into the hands of a Liberal candidate.

Yeah, I know. I'm just surprised more people are betting on the Coalition winning in Wentworth. That's all.

I think she will. I think Tony is finished if his primary vote falls below 45%, he "only" got 51% last time. He'll struggle to get preferences from anybody.

Nightwatchman was already PM by the time of the by-election, and Bill was always going to strip the tax breaks. Plus, Kerryn Phelps isn't really Labor. They're not going to change their mind after 8 months of basically nothing from the government.

I think Phelps fits that type of a social progressive but an economic conservative. It just seems to be the case that once an independent gets in, it becomes very hard to dislodge them until they retire, which is why I think Phelps will hold on.

Pro-tip: If you're going to throw an egg at the PM in a public place with lots of security and cameras around in political protest... Don't carry a bunch of weed on your person.

She was such a vegan that she couldn't even crack an egg. Sad!

But yeah, way to do your side a disservice and garner sympathy for Morrison. Also, it's interesting to note that Morrison was campaigning in Albury of all places. I wonder what his internal polls are saying about the seat of Farrer...

Also this whole "parties doing their official campaign launch in the final week of the campaign" thing really needs to stop. The only reason they leave it so late is because parties can't get taxpayer funded travel after their official launch. What a rort.
