It's a bit weird to see an election in an English-speaking nation where it's not the left that's divided into dozens of increasingly small parties. Critical support for Labour, of course.

Oh, it's divided enough. Progressives tend to give Greens first over Labor, for example.

At least tell me that the Australian Greens don't have dumb ideas about nuclear power like their American cousins.

Actually....

https://greens.org.au/policies/nuclear-and-uranium

There's still the Science Party, they're running candidates for Senate and House in ACT and NSW, and they endorse nuclear energy.

The thing about nukes is they are deteraints to war. Nobody wants mutually assured destruction. Therefore, I'd rather nuclear deteraints than war

Sigh...

Maybe I should reconsider my support for the Greens. But then, it's not like I love any of the parties. Labor is too union-focused for its own good.

The left tends to be a bit more united in Anglophone countries, or at least those with Westminster systems. Generally speaking there's usually a Labour Party and a Green Party that will usually compose the elected left bloc of Parliament, Labour being more mainstream and "generic" (or big tent) and the Greens being more orientated towards social justice and environmental policies.

Yeah, never look to the Greens for any kind of progressive policies on nuclear energy.

So looks like I’m not voting in the federal elections either.
It’s really too much trouble getting re enrolled when this is the selection of parties we have to choose from.

Seriously global environmental catastrophe cannot come fast enough.

Choosing between a centre-left party and a centre-right party in one of the most developed countries on earth makes you wish the world would end?

But there were so many others at least for the Senate...and the Greens aren't half-bad unlike in a lot of other countries where they don't take themselves seriously.

Yeah my thing in the same way as a cup of lukewarm water that has been used to clean fungi from someone’s sinuses is a tea drinkers thing. Also the booger water may be the most appealing just because everyone else is stirring their drinks with turds. But it’s still isn’t a beer.

Well, most of the how-to cards are now out, so we'll get a better idea of what the parties prefer.

IMO, no self-respecting voter should follow those how-to-vote cards.

Yeah, but his party is gaining popularity so its only logical to add it in

If I do that, it'll reset the poll, which is why I don't do it very often, least of all for a party that'll probably only manage one senator.

Do we have to call him a senator, he didn’t get there on merit. Can’t we call him “a minor hiccup in our preference system.”

It’s accurate, it’s fair, and Australia doesn’t get too shamed by his existing.
