This became political when a decent chunk of political movements and parties started using Muslims and their perceived status as "other" as political currency. This terrorist's manifesto doesn't exist in a vaccum, it exists against a backdrop of dogwhistle Islamaphobia in the press and full, mask off racism in online spaces and the real world. Most people who encounter it aren't going to shoot up a mosque or whatever. However, there will of course be the occasional person divorced from reality who does.

I don't, at all.

Bad things happen because bad people chose to do said things. The attacker was delusional. My doctor reaffirms that I am not. Someone who wishes to voice their opinions, no matter how hateful they are, as long as they are within law, are in no way responsible for this attack.

The thing is there's 3 suspects - and while I continue to believe he essentially acted alone - there is the possibility this was a coordinated attack where just 'he's delusional' doesn't cut it.

Remains to be seen, we've had really little information about the other two in custody.

Reuters I believe it was is saying 20 of the wounded are still in serious condition, so that number might still rise yet.

Twelve operating theatres are currently in use and due to the nature of some of the injuries, many people will need multiple surgeries. There is sufficient capacity and staff at Christchurch Hospital and the police cordon has been lifted from the site, so people who need emergency health care can now attend the Christchurch Hospital Emergency Department.

At least everything is essentially operational and everything that can be done is being done.

Some people questioned the response of the police, personally I think the NZ police worked remarkably quickly and brought everything under control pretty damn quickly. As best as it could be handled it was..
