I don't even live in New Zealand, but this has made me paranoid for some reason. I heard a loud bang sound when I attended an afternoon prayer at a local mosque and my first thought is, "has the shootings finally happened here too?"

I don't know why I'm writing right now, other than a vague need to try and express how I'm feeling and get my thoughts straight.

I'm from New Zealand myself - in fact, Christchurch is my home town - and I've spent most of the last few hours trying to ensure my family (who live within a block of the one of the Mosques) are safe.

It's very hard to explain to people in other parts of the world what it feels like to be in New Zealand right now, other than to say the entire country is in shock. Terrorism, and mass murder, on this scale has never happened before.

There is a real sense that the country has lost its innocence.

I am upset in a way that I have never experienced before.

It seems like NZ's lack of terror attacks and big murders seems to have played a part in why it was chosen as the place for the attack, at least that's what I was reading earlier.
