It's actually legal for civilians to own a tank and most forms of artillery as far as I am tracking.

It is, but it's damn uncommon. We gotta change that stat.

Kapp and Lüttwitz did nothing wrong.

The Kapp Putsch has always been something I've been interested in. I've always wondered how history might have went had it succeeded.

By far the men of the Freikorps have been one of the biggest influences on me politically; the later lives of many of them are also just as fascinating.

Yes, if I ever get money one of my goals is to purchase a WWII-era vehicle.

Got any suggested stuff to look into? I know people like Juenger (even if he wasn't technically Freikorps I feel he still captured a lot of the general mindset) wrote an awful lot but I'm sure there has to be more out there.

Junger is definitely the best, although I seem to recall another, actually high up in command terms, but I can't recall his name; interesting fellow, planned to kill Hitler and restore the Monarchy in the 1930s, had to flee to Austria after 1933.

It hurts me to know I will never own a Sturmtiger tbh

After you posted this earlier I did some research and found that a Panther could still defeat an M2 Bradley and give a decent fight against an M60.

The former ComBlock is a magical place. I know there's some units in Ukraine who capture Russian equipment, demil it in the simplest ways possible and then immediately try to sell it people in the US. You can get pretty much anything out of that side of the continent and it's wonderful.

I once crafted plans for my small community of a few thousand to declare itself independent from the United States, utilizing former Warsaw Pact equipment to win the inevitable conflict given its affordability.

You can find much superior T-54s for half that going price. They're not literal metal boxes prone to transmission fires the second you start the engine, unlike Tigers. :^)

You can also find T-72s on the market for $20,000 less than WRA's stated price of $160,000 for a Tiger lmao

Why anyone would go for the inferior metal box over a modern tank is stupid tbqh.

Honestly I used to do the same, but I was more interested in administration. I hated modern militaries though and preferred to imagine swords and armor instead.

German tanks from the Second World War developed a reputation for teething trouble, which has become something of a meme as of the last few years. Most famous example is the Panthers at Kursk, where by Day 2 most had broken down due to mechanical failures. Over time most issues were corrected though and by the end of the war the Panther was well known as an effective, dangerous tank. IIRC, I recall a study from not too long that found the aforementioned teething trouble wasn't all that different from Allied tanks, especially the T-34. Still, the meme has stuck.

I'm pretty sure the Chieftain wouldn't hold up against a T-72 famalam.

It's also worth noting the 160,000 price is actually kinda fair given the circumstances tbh. It's not a real Tiger (as the only real running one is 131 and that's not for sale), it's an entirely rebuilt replica of a Tiger built on a T-34 chassis. It's not like it was just pulled out of a warehouse, a lot of work went into it.

iirc the Kuwaitis used them to great effect to tear open Iraqi T-72's in 91, similar reports came out of Iran

Outside the turret frontal armor, the King Tiger could kill the T-54 even with a frontal strike from point blank all the way out to almost 2000 meters.
