Cultural appropriation is only a problem of any sort in extreme circumstances, but what OP described isn't cultural appropriation, nor would it be a problem if it were. If you're going to attack people for adopting cultural values they don't understand as well as they think they do and you can't be persuaded not to, then have the common decency to go for the weebs first and not trivial stuff like "black musician doing his f**king job".

No, this is not an example of it, because, even if you could actually argue that 'white' is a culture, the Concerto was something given away freely by that culture for other cultures to use. A similar example would be an Asian person making tacos.

I have to question how a culture would give something away freely for others to use. One can’t exactly give an entire culture a survey to fill out to see if they agree to it.

Sure, but you could feasibly look at the numbers of people from each culture who are engaging in such things and the numbers of people who publicly object to them. It's not very difficult to see a difference in the numbers of people who sell tacos vs. the rare Native American poacher who will sell eagle feathers to non-Native Americans.

You would never catch me ascribing to any ideology delineating cultural property in service of essentialist social theory BUT in the interest of fairness... most people who think 'cultural appropriation is bad' would make a distinction between the appropriation of 'oppressed' culture by an 'oppressor' group, and the appropriation of 'oppressor' culture by an 'oppressed' group. Ergo, white people using black culture = bad, black people using white culture = fine.

If you accept that culture can belong to people, it follows that you would go the above route. That's why the example in the OP wouldn't be considered negative.

Obviously the solution is to reinstate strict segregation among racial and ethnic groups and enforce anti-miscegenation laws to ensure cultures are kept pure from outside influences.
