They could have just given it to the lawyer representing the family, who would then have retrieved the child.

That will still have legal and diplomatic issues you know.

That’s complicated and why would the UK go through so much trouble?

He's talking about the time the RN stepped in to help out when that Icelandic volcano downed flights across the whole of Europe.

Yeah, you're right. Better to just do nothing and let the child die without even trying.

Ignoring the fact that the UK doesn't even have a battleship, you expect them to divert a vessel of that size to an active warzone in a country ruled by a hostile government for a single child whose parents are terrorists?

Couldn't UK take the baby away from the mother?

The mother didn’t want to let the baby leave without her and the UK didn’t want to go and get the baby.

The mother's fucking a terrorist, and the Government didn't want to go and get the baby? This is when you say "fuck it" and go and get the baby. That's what I'd do.

Regardless of how bad it is, this thread should be renamed- "Son of ex UK citizen who defected to ISIS dies after mother was to stubborn and stupid to let her child live a normal life in the UK."

Because the child is not a UK citizen because he doesn't get birth right citizenship because his mother gave up her citizenship when she defected to ISIS.

He wasn't our citizen, he was never born here and never given citizenship. The only thing British about him was his mother and she's a damn traitor at that.

It's a sad thing to see a child die but it was never our fault nor our concern.

I’m going to say something horrible but, kids die at refugee camps all the time. The truth is the UK govt probably had no vested interest in bringing this child to its soil. Is it sad the child died? Yes. But this is a reality in such settings. There isn’t much one can do.

The mother made that decision for the child, unfortunately. And although he was innocent, death happens. The world moves on.

To get an on the day passport you need to attend a passport centre in the UK or and embassy or consulate abroad. I also don't think it's possible to get an on the day passport if it's you're first one.

Does the government not have any flexibility in deciding how/when to issue emergency passports for newborn babies?

It’s also worth noting that the UK Embassy in Syria can’t do shit.

From UK Embassy in Syria Website:
The British Embassy in Damascus is unable to provide any consular assistance as operations have been suspended and diplomatic personnel have been withdrawn.

This part here is very very important to note:
We cannot help you leave Syria. Those who choose to remain in Syria or to visit against our advice should be aware that we cannot provide consular assistance in country

The difference is the UK has a diplomatic connection with Iceland while they do not have one with Syria and sending a warship into Syrian waters would be an awful idea.

There’s no diplomatic relations dude. The Syrian government would refuse to let anyone leave if they just randomly got a passport, especially if that individual was linked to ISIS.
