The point I'm trying to make is that regardless of what the mother has done, the child was still an innocent UK citizen stranded in a dangerous situation with no way of getting himself home. In such a case, I would expect the UK government to at least try to help, rather than fobbing him off by claiming his family had contacted the wrong department.

And I’ve said the responsibility lies entirely on the mother. The UK isn’t obligated to bail out every citizen who gets in trouble, certainly not a terrorist who has gotten three of her children killed.

I'm not talking about bailing out the mother, I'm saying they had an obligation the help the baby, whose as an innocent UK citizen.

The mother was never given the option of having her child brought back to the Uk without her because the government refused to act when her family went to them for help.

What would you want the government to do? We don't currently have any diplomatic relationship with Syria so it have had to have been some kind of snatch squad sent in the steal the baby from a Syrian refugee camp.

Because they didn’t want to pay for a member of a well known terrorist organization, indirectly or directly.

It’s a shit situation.

Kinda. I mean the mother made the decision to join ISIS. It’s sad the kid died, he was innocent but what could the UK govt do? The mother violated the law. She joined a terrorist organization and was banned from entering the UK. I guess bring the infant to her family, but I doubt they (UK govt) had a vested interest in spending the money to.

All the government had to do was provide the family's lawyer with the paperwork needed to bring the baby back. But they refused to do so until the baby's mother confirmed she'd let the child travel without her, which wasn't an option until they had the paperwork in place.

The blame solely lies on the child’s mother. Sad to say but it’s the truth.

Why would the baby be classed as a member of IS?

And what were they supposed to do? Send in an SAS capture team to take the child away from its mother in the dead of night?

Also, this is the third child she’s gotten killed, as I mentioned. She doesn’t seem to bothered.

Depends on the father actually. If the father was a Syrian citizen at the child’s birth then they would have been Syrian. Also the child could have been Bangladeshi as well

The family's lawyer was planning a trip out to talk to the mother and potentially bring the child back with him to be raised by the family. All he would have needed was the paperwork from the UK government to allow the child home.

Failing that, they could have worked with the Kurdish red crescent, who were operating in the camp, to get the baby to safety.

Your making this look simple but in reality it would have a major headache. Is it sad the kid died of course but the UK government could not really do all that much.

he was born in syria.

Unlike the Americas the rest of the world, sans a few European nations, doesn’t grant automatic citizenship when a child is born within their jurisdiction. For a lot of the world they require that at least one party be a citizen at the birth of the child in order for the automatic citizenship to apply

Ok, but this kid was probably also a Syrian citizen. Without diplomatic relations between both governments, could the kid have been really taken out of Syria?

I feel terrible that that inasant boy died before he could go to the UK to live with his not radical family. I guess this serves as a lesson, if you don't want to be trapped in a terrorist controlled country with your child don't be stupid enough to defect from your country to marry a terrorist.
