Jarrah was less than 3 weeks old when he died of pneumonia on Thursday afternoon.
I see this as a huge failing on the part of the UK government. This was an innocent baby who was knowingly left to die because doing anything to actually help him would have been too politically awkward for a government in the middle of trying to win over the right wing to support their version of Brexit.
If journalists are able to get access to the camp to interview his mother, I don't see any compelling reason why the home office wouldn't have been able to help him, if that was actually what they'd wanted to do.
What do you all think? Am I being unfair to the home office by blaming them for this tragic death?

Yeah, this was the of her children to die, and the fault lies entirely with the mother who went and joined ISIS.

Really? There's no fault at all with the UK government for leaving a vulnerable citizen to die because it would have been politically awkward to intervene? Would it still be solely the mothers fault if the child were in Syria because she'd been visiting relatives rather than joining IS?

I agree, just because his parents were terrorists, doesn't mean that the baby was a terrorist too. There's no such thing as a terrorist gene. This was tragic, and preventable.Thermodolia wrote:A shame but it’s not the UK’s fault the mother was a fucking retard
Couldn't UK take the baby away from the mother?

No. She lost two children, and waited to have the third before asking to go back to the UK. The fault is all hers. And if she was visiting relatives she would be a lawful citizen, not a terrorist and would go to an embassy.

The mother didn’t want to let the baby leave without her and the UK didn’t want to go and get the baby.

The point I'm trying to make is that regardless of what the mother has done, the child was still an innocent UK citizen stranded in a dangerous situation with no way of getting himself home. In such a case, I would expect the UK government to at least try to help, rather than fobbing him off by claiming his family had contacted the wrong department.

Yes, but based on the article, you're significantly making the idea of bringing the baby back to the UK sound far simpler than it would have been.
