Yes, it's nice having a single-seat multirole that can fly up its own asshole, but I'm all for having dedicated aircraft for dedicated roles. Sure, that means more airframes and more money, but a dozen jobs for one aircraft is not my cup of tea.

Especially when the F-35 was designed with air to air missions taking a higher priority than air to ground. Whoever thought 180 rounds of 25-millimeter ammunition can replace 1,100 rounds of thirty-millimeter depleted uranium goodness is a bigger << DUMBASS >> than Trigger.

Despite you dissing the good F-35, I can wholeheartedly agree that they're trying to fit so many roles onto an aircraft that can only do so much. Upgrading the A-10 is what they should have done rather than try to push its job to an aircraft totally unsuited for the role.

Except the A-10 simply can not operate where there is a chance of meeting a modern air defence system and even in places like Afghanistan something like 80% of cas is delivered via the jdam blues.

The Paris Gun.

A giant artillery used by the Germans in WWI to launch the occasional shell straight into Paris as a form of psychological warfare.

The gun needed frequent maintenance/replacement and its accuracy was only good for city-sized targets.

^

The gun was fired from a wooded hill (Le mont de Joie) near Crépy and the first shell landed at 7:18 a.m. on 21 March 1918 on the Quai de la Seine, the explosion being heard across the city. Shells continued to land at 15 minute intervals, with 21 counted on the first day.[9] The initial assumption was these were bombs dropped from an airplane or Zeppelin flying too high to be seen or heard.[Note 3] Within a few hours, sufficient casing fragments had been collected to show that the explosions were the result of shells, not bombs. By the end of the day, military authorities were aware the shells were being fired from behind German lines by a new long-range gun, although there was initially press speculation on the origin of the shells. This included the theory they were being fired by German agents close by Paris, or even within the city itself, so abandoned quarries close to the city were searched for a hidden gun.[9] The actual gun was found within days by the French air reconnaissance[10] aviator Didier Daurat.

The Paris gun emplacement was dug out of the north side of the wooded hill at Coucy-le-Château-Auffrique.[Note 4] The gun was mounted on heavy steel rails embedded in concrete, facing Paris.

The Paris gun was used to shell Paris at a range of 120 km (75 mi). The distance was so far that the Coriolis effect—the rotation of the Earth—was substantial enough to affect trajectory calculations. The gun was fired at an azimuth of 232 degrees (west-southwest) from Crépy-en-Laon, which was at a latitude of 49.5 degrees North.

Between 320 to 367 shells were fired, at a maximum rate of around 20 per day. The shells killed 250 people and wounded 620, and caused considerable damage to property. The worst incident was on 29 March 1918, when a single shell hit the roof of the St-Gervais-et-St-Protais Church, collapsing the roof on to the congregation then hearing the Good Friday service. A total of 91 people were killed and 68 were wounded.

The gun was taken back to Germany in August 1918 as Allied advances threatened its security. No guns were ever captured by the Allies. It is believed that near the end of the war they were completely destroyed by the Germans. One spare mounting was captured by American troops in Bruyères-sur-Fère, near Château-Thierry, but the gun was never found; the construction plans seem to have been destroyed as well.[11]

...

Under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, the Germans were required to turn over a complete Paris Gun to the Allies, but they never complied with this.[12]

Its four track design and disc-shaped body qualifies as weird, as it was a major departure from previous tank design, never entered service, and didn't influence subsequent tank design. That's what makes it weird.

So why is almost nobody buying the Su-57? Even the Russians are only buying a handful. Also a different class of fighter. Su-57 is a Gen 4+ twin engine jet. More comparable to the Super Hornet than the F-35.

It never came close to living up to expectations. Turned out to basically just be an upgraded, but much more expensive Flanker.
It is not a bad plane, for the 4+ gen (it simply is not a real gen 5 plane).
But the added cost does not offer enough improvement over cheaper Flankers.
Which is why it is failing to generate sales.

Also while interesting the 4 track design never actually worked properly.
It was unreliable, poorly protected, and made the tank very difficult to drive.

But seriously this thing would just consume assloads of fuel(fuel the Germans did not have) and would just be bombed as it is a massive target. It was pretty useless.

To be honest, it can find a use, but not the one it was intended for: as a mobile bunker. Park one of these things in a well-camouflaged position, let it fight, then move it once night falls so the enemy aircraft can't find it (if it isn't destroyed before night).

But as a tank? Yeah, they would have been better off as scrap.

But remember the Germans had massive fuel shortages for the entire war so I doubt it would be able to move very far before running out of fuel meaning it would probably just be overun before it can do much damage.
