What I'm more outraged by is that they made it public knowledge for the peanut gallery. Talk like this is for behind closed doors within a small enough circle to where it can't be leaked. And no, people decide to become racist all the time- without being taught by their parents or some stereotype. From either the internet or personal experience. I'm one example.

For me, its not that differences among people makes those people bad necessarily. I just deem it significant enough as to consider those people different in the first place. Of course I'm not going to just ignore that and treat every group exactly the same like some robot, or to want to embrace diversity like some liberal. I see more value not in change, but in what I'm familiar with or used to.

Our country has always been racist against someone. Newsflash, racism has existed since long before Trump was a twinkle in his momma's eye. Being aware of history is the first step to genuinely solving the issue, rather than acting like nothing existed before 2016.

These particular students need to be taught that this is not ok. If they show remorse, fine. But, posting a web video like this to get views is sickening.

They deserve to be punished. Community Service, maybe Juvie, or working at a multiethnic workplace, as community service. Either way, they need to be punished.

Honestly, a good 3-day suspension and taking away some of their immediate privileges would do the trick I think. Put them a couple feet deep in schoolwork, take away their friends, take away their cellphones and computer privileges, and they'll think twice. Most kids smarten-up when they know it's going to cost them if they don't. The most extreme punishment is not always the most effective, in my opinion.

Punishing them in that way doesn't work. There's a simpler solution. Force them to interact with these communities for a bit, a week or so after school.
