Because nothing else can prove how smart and intelligent and critical a person is than going onto an online thread about how the N word is bad and racist and screaming it over and over again to strangers. All jokes aside, I don't think anyone wants to ban the n-word. It should really be a context thing, IMO. If an edgelord makes a joke with the n word they'll be regarded as unfunny, but it's not the end of the world. Likewise if someone just uses it to refer to a friend, not an issue. Using it to insult or degrade people, though, should be considered socially unacceptable. Honestly the issue is talked about too much in the media considering issues such as the military industrial complex and the death of our environment, but it's not like any political discussions are ever meaningful

People have differing opinions. Some think saying the n word is fine, a few think it should be banned. It is included in America's freedom of speech, but it can be regarded as hate speech. Should it be legal? Should there be government given n word passes? How much should the government discourage saying it?

Nerd, geek, dork have all been reclaimed after the aforementioned groups ended up with the big bucks during and after the dot com bubble.

The n-word and the f noun may have been partially reclaimed by the groups they were formally used against, but that doesn't exactly make it okay for people outside the group to use it.

I think context matters alot with n word. It is undoubtedly a racial slur and you should not be going saying it lightly but acting like saying it makes you automatically racist is a mistake. If your going shouting things like "fuck you n word" then yeah your a racist as your using it to insult black people. But if you say just blurt it out when your pissed at a game or something well I would say it would dumb and wrong of you to say it but your not necessarily racist.
