Are you serious? Because it's using an almost universally recognized racial slur that has been a symbol of subjugation of black people for centuries, when another word would do.

That's why it's offensive to use against others. That doesn't explain why it should be offensive in the context I gave. No one says "the k-word" when discussing the word 'kike', for instance. It's weird to use a euphemism for a word when you're talking about that word.

Don't call a person the word "nigger" or any other slur. Quoting it for historical context should be fine though.

That's why it's offensive to use against others. That doesn't explain why it should be offensive in the context I gave. No one says "the k-word" when discussing the word 'kike', for instance. It's weird to use a euphemism for a word when you're talking about that word.

I haven't heard the word 'kike' discussed at all, frankly. The fact is that they're using a racial slur when a euphemism would do, and it's very possible that members of the group targeted could take offense to that or at the least consider it uncouth. But honestly, I can't speak for black people.
