So basically either the Tories throw centuries of parliamentary convention out the window or forty-six MPs have to resign from the party.

Time for a bit of modernization, methinks. Let centuries of convention crash violently, never to recover. Human history is full of such so-called tragedies.

Quite possibly, yes, although they may simply be excluded from the parliamentary Conservative group. In any case, three line whip is serious business, which is why only a complete fucking maniac would deploy it on anything other than a budget or confidence vote.

Defying a 3 line whip has historically been a "you're out of the party" offence. May has decided even the ministers won't be sacked from their jobs. STRONG AND STABLE!

Usually it means that the MP gets the chop. But in this case the sheer numbers of MPs is so extreme that it could bring down the government. May's hands are tied, as forcing the issue would be falling on her sword.

One tory mp voted while wearing blacktie yesterday. When asked about it he said it was what they wore when the Titanic was going down.

Statements such as those are always good for another irate screeching session in the Daily Mail. Arrogant eurocrats, amirite? How dare those people have a sense of humour?

No. I'm sorry but the way this government has been for nearly 2 years has astonished me. None of this would have happened if she didn't call a general election in 2017 and she wouldn't have lost her parliamentary majority. I'd say an extension is needed, and maybe the UK needs to participate in the EU elections, but at this point, I don't know.
