Make sure you sit down before you read this.

Most veg and salad in the supermarkets is washed in chlorine.

The reason it's banned in meat is because the EU reckon it can cover up some less well known bacterial viruses that result from other poor hygiene practices or being lack on changing the water. And even then it's only been from something like the late 90s. Before that it was used over here for decades. The Listeria problem in a certain NHS, guess what kills Listeria? Chlorine.

So just think about that for second, are you really that much opposed to chlorine you won't ever eat salad or veg again? Or is it just a massive over reaction?

It's always been an overreaction. Liam Fox was asked to eat a 'chlorinated chicken' before, it's obvious he has done so because he's been to America and has presumably eaten chicken while there.

I'm opposed to it purely because it is used to cover up terrible practices in the meat industry. It's similar to how I avoid halal or kosher meat where possible.

What's a bad trade deal, in your opinion?

A trade deal that would require the UK to import products which do not meet UK, health safety, and environmental standards. Or one that forced the privatization of the NHS.

Its probably fine, I don't worry when I visit my family and I'm sure practically nobody here who has been to the US has bothered to check what they eat either.

I eat organic where possible just because normally I think it has better flavour but I'm not wedded to the idea like a vegan is to veganism.

It's all about the health regime. It's funny because in my grandads area (chief of environmental health) in the late 70s there was a chicken processing plant that had a few problems until he sorted it out. Ironocally topical it was also an american comany. The main problem in that case was they were getting how often the water should be changed wrong. Simple as that really. If you are confident in you environmental health system and the people who enforce it there should be no need to worry.

The last time I was there I spent a couple of weeks with my aunty and uncle who run a small bakery in the wilds of Pennsylvania. They traded their products for most of the food they eat with local producers at the farmers market. Even trading unsold stale bread with a local free range chicken farmer with major PTSD for eggs. So many colours of egg I never knew existed. Have you ever had a fried blue egg?

The food I ate and cooked that fortnight was spectacular.

So is our drinking water. Isn’t a better question not if, but how much, and what studies have been done to determine Chlorine reactant products and there affects on health? Is that affect increased in Chicken, or meat, compared to other foodstuffs?

Isn’t the incidence of Listeriosis similar between the US and UK suggesting some other medium of infection? A comparison between 2017 for both countries suggests a higher incidence in the US than UK.

There is apparently a £26,600,000,000 war chest set aside by the Conservative government while ordinary people have been suffering. Having to use food banks by the millions. The NHS struggling.

Why aren't we rising up and replacing these people?

Or maybe we should be fixing the social inequalities that drive most people to crime.

But surely investing in measures which reduce crime and therefore capacity are more valuable?
