Sleeping with the (Political) Enemy: Do You?

Postby You-Gi-Owe » Mon Apr 12, 2010 9:17 pm

I met a woman on an internet dating site and we have chemistry.

We're like James Carville and Mary Matalin. Well, except that she's the liberal Democrat and I'm the conservative Republican.

Do you have a relationship with someone who's your political opposite?

My girlfriend is an uber-moralistic, judgmental, under-achieving, extremely religious girl.

So yes, I do.

I've slept with my political opposite before, but, I'm not sure I could have an actual fulfilling relationship with a girl from the other side, so to speak, I wouldn't be able to help myself trying to "convert" her, and it would get in the way...

I was married to an apolitical woman for six years. That'll never happen again.

Meh, kinda. My wife and I disagree on a few things. Mainly though, we're children of different political systems so it doesn't usually matter since neither one of us votes in the other's elections.

Yes. Most of my girlfriends are apolitical, or let me rephrase that -"morons." I admit it has benefits. I mean some of the active girls which are Democrats are yeesh looking. So like maybe if I was drunk and they were on a treadmill scenario. I have to give the GOP one thing, they have better looking chicks, for the most part. Not so gruesome or butch looking. Wow, I imagine I just offended a lot of NS people. Well get over it. I'm a guy, I'm sorry. Blame evolution

I couldn't have a relationship with anyone who didn't believe in protecting civil rights and ensuring that everyone has access to adequate nutrition, housing, medical care and education. I couldn't have a relationship with someone who believed that refusing to let people starve "only makes them lazy".

If a Republican fell outside of those views, then sure, it's possible.

I didn't realize that was the point of the thread. I thought there was actually a clearly defined premise I was responding to. But you know, it is quite late, maybe I misread.

I feel very sad about your views on people that you might disagree with. It means you have no hopes of them overcoming their prejudices, or of you overcoming your prejudices. You have no desire to see what good might be in them.

That's pretty funny, considering that I said I could date people with differing political views, but specified that I couldn't date people who didn't have the same basic compassion and regard for living beings that I do.

I also couldn't date a hitman or someone who kicked puppies for fun. No, I know, it's terrible, these prejudices I have.
