What stops them killing you is the fact they don't want to be arrested for murder. Muggers very rarely kill people on purpose. In fact, deciding to fight makes it far more likely they will kill you.

and mugging a military personnel is better? They would be arrested either way, and if I think if they resorted to mugging and they think i have more stuff on me, I may be harmed anyway.

Er... they are interested in your wallet. Either you give it to them, run really fast or try and fight.

It really doesn't matter how tough you are. Three people with knives mean you might just survive if someone notices you bleeding to death in the gutter. Maybe.

No actual professional fighter would ever ever advise that you fight in this situation. You will almost certainly lose and probably die.

If you are close enough to hit someone, they are close enough to stab you.

In movies, the goons attack one at a time. In real life they would rush you and get you.

2 - You run. Ricky option since they may chase you but you also may get away or they won't care to chase you.
3 - Hand them your wallet. Unless you are some sort of spy or messenger carrying highly secret information there is no way what is in your wallet is more important then your life.

In this thread: people who have zero idea how violence or fighting works in the real world.

Always, always hand over your wallet in this scenario. Any self defense or martial arts instructor worth their pay will tell you exactly the same.

Yeah, I remember a story about a black belt getting robbed. I can’t imagine beating up several people with knives. Years of inconsistently going to martial arts isn’t enough to make up for being that outnumbered and overpowered. Given what I ever carry, I wouldn’t have anything useful enough. Sadly, kill them all doesn’t work in this scenario.

I’m ok at MCMAP, MACP, and Krav Maga.

I still wouldn’t fight them. A knife fight is the bloodiest fight possible. If I don’t have a gun on me, 80% of the time I carry one, i would not engage

That’s not courage, it’s stupidity. I’d wager that 80% of NSG would shit themselves in such a situation. I’m trained in three different combatives and I still wouldn’t go up against three guys with knives

What did your instructors advise regarding situations like this? I am guessing it was 'don't risk your life over your wallet.'

Of course they would leave you. They want money or stuff they can sell and they want to get away. If they get pulled up by the police, they don't want to get done for murder.
