More like 50% are so greedy they value their wallet over their life. This isn’t courage, it’s stupidity. It’s brave when you are risking death for something abstractly valuable to you. Getting yourself killed or seriously injured over money you don’t need it pointless.

No offense, but I get this feeling you've never had to worry about what will pay for your next meal. If your life is in the gutter, money and good luck is all you have to pull yourself out of it. Love might keep you sane longer, but unless someone's giving you a place to stay and eat for free, or a job, it won't get you anywhere.

Most I've carried was 700 quid as a deposit for a reasonably dodgy landlord. All in 50's. That was galling to part with.

Hmm, I'm torn on this one. On one hand you are supposedly a highly trained operator in hand to hand combat, while the 3 thugs do not possess such training, and the only weapon they possess is a knife. Seems to me it would all depend on how the fight goes down and whether or not, our trained self is able to neutralize one threat for a knife or use what ever is available to use as a melee weapon. Would tossing your wallet just out of the reach of the furthest thug with a knife gain an advantage to neutralize the closest threat?

Or I guess one could go on a revenge mission after giving up your wallet and kill all three at a later time or kill everyone they know and love and leave the three thugs as cripples for the rest of their lives knowing they lost everything dear to them over a 1000 dollars a piece.

Either way, it is a tall order in taking on all 3.

What the "being a highly trained fighter" bit gives you is the absolute knowledge that you can't actually take on 3 people in any kind of real-world situation.

And also that any fight involving knives is one in which everybody involved is probably going to die or be seriously injured, regardless of anything else. (This, incidentally, is why carrying a knife in self-defence is stupid: it massively increases the chance of you dying if you do end up in a fight).

What stops them killing you is the fact they don't want to be arrested for murder. Muggers very rarely kill people on purpose. In fact, deciding to fight makes it far more likely they will kill you.

and mugging a military personnel is better? They would be arrested either way, and if I think if they resorted to mugging and they think i have more stuff on me, I may be harmed anyway.
