What if you carry pepper spray? Then you can spray it in all directions and run. Risky though.

Not overly so. You're not supposed to carry it in your purse for reasons like this, but if it's on the outside of your purse and they don't have guns, spray, pray, and runaway.

I'd take a fourth option: run like hell.

I'm decently athletic, and, since the muggers are armed only with knives, I'm safe as long as I can keep them at a distance. Assuming I can evade them long enough to reach safety or get my hands on something I can use to fight back, I get to keep both my life and the contents of my wallet. If they manage to catch up to me, then I'll take the first option, since they're unlikely to be quite as willing to let me live if they've had to chase after me for several minutes.

I think there is something unbelievably beautiful about valuing your honour so much you'd be willing to die for it

its not always just about the wallet, sometimes its just the principle of what it stands for; you can't have people walk over you

personally I have struggled to carry that kind of Courage but some people seem to have it

What exactly is the honour here?

That’s actually a good idea.

Shame that the person who hugged you as a greeting is now dead because the snipers wrongly interpreted it as an attack on you...

But I am wearing full plate armor so the knifes probably won't go through the armor

Why am I walking around (a presumably shady area) with all my ID and that much money (cards, cash and ID are the only things I care about in this scenario, by the way)? Why didn't I get a taxi?

As for the scenario, hand over my purse, go home, and cancel everything (cards/ID) that I'd lost.

My life is more important than anything I'm carrying, no martial arts training could defend me against three knives.

Principles mean jackshit when you die for no good reason.

They must be pretty shitty snipers, and if I am casually carrying 3K in my wallet I'm pretty sure I can hire some good ones.

I hate hugs anyway. It would be more of a legal issue, but it the snipers are from the government, so I think we’re good.

It isn't dishonourable to get mugged. It takes a serious dose of victim-blaming to think that it is...

Oooooh, i'm a drugs dealer, aren't I?

The only kinds of people that carry around that kind of cash as an everyday occurrence must be into some really dirty deals.

The only person I can remember seeing with that kind of money in their wallet was a middle-aged man in a suit. Could have been more €3,000 actually, big thick wad of fifties. I've always thought it a bit suspicious.

IM, go and sign up for five different martial arts or self defense classes, then ask the instructors what you should do in this scenario on the first day.

They will all tell you that you hand over your wallet.

Fighting in this hypothetical is really stupid.

Nah nah it's courage alright some thugs approach you and you pull some matrix shit where you dodge all their knives and beat them all up then that makes you courageous. Not stupid. Stupid is if you fail it and get stabbed multiple times.

Hmm, I'm torn on this one. On one hand you are supposedly a highly trained operator in hand to hand combat, while the 3 thugs do not possess such training, and the only weapon they possess is a knife. Seems to me it would all depend on how the fight goes down and whether or not, our trained self is able to neutralize one threat for a knife or use what ever is available to use as a melee weapon. Would tossing your wallet just out of the reach of the furthest thug with a knife gain an advantage to neutralize the closest threat?

Or I guess one could go on a revenge mission after giving up your wallet and kill all three at a later time or kill everyone they know and love and leave the three thugs as cripples for the rest of their lives knowing they lost everything dear to them over a 1000 dollars a piece.

Either way, it is a tall order in taking on all 3.
