Why not just put "Guardian: Jean Dupont, Martin Dupont" on legal paper or something? If you think father - father makes sense then guardian-guardian makes more sense.

As much as I like to mock France for their gross mismanagement of things, this ain’t it chief.

This is literally just a minor modification to make paperwork for same-sex couples easier and less embarrassing.

The denomination in question could use a change, but the intention is otherwise perfectly within the realm of normality.

It shouldn’t even be that. For the purposes of school enrolment, the listed parents are the ones you live with. Luke’s adoptive parents would have been Parent 1 and Parent 2. Deadbeat Dad Vader wouldn’t have been listed at all.

In my opinion, this is good in the paperwork sense, as same-sex couples don't have to be "irked" by mother/father. It's a bit useless though, and I agree with the proposal that "Primary Guardian" etc. should be used.

I think the change is good even though parent 1 and parent 2 sound dull.

As for why they couldn't do mother/mother or father/father, I can imagine that it'd be easy to mix up the parent's details if their titles are the same.
