EU report on money-laundering includes US Territories

Postby Rio Cana » Fri Feb 15, 2019 2:41 pm

They were talking about this the other day on the radio. It seems the EU. has published its latest list on nations in which the act of laundering money is present. The nations in the list are the usual nations we expect to be on that list. What was not expected is that the EU. list included four US territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa and the US Virgin Islands). The US treasury response was not to take the EU. serious on this. Some say this is the latest tug of war between the US and EU. and that the EU. is just using the excuse of there being money laundering in the US territories to get back at the US.

So what do you think. I think while the money laundering could be true that the EU. brought it up to get back at the US.

There's one minor problem with the poll. I haven't read the report, but it's by no means impossible that it's simultaneously factual and political.

If true, they could have not mentioned it since it does involve a militarily and economic powerhouse US. The US and other nations at times do things which other nations including allies prefer not to comment in order not to get on there bad side. But they did this time around which could make it political.

Caribbean countries are noted sites for money laundering, because of their lack of taxes and oversight. This I can believe.

Laundering money is unironically thought to be one of the revenue streams of the North Korean government.

It would make sense. North Korea has tons of illegal business and the government doesn’t seem to be stopping it. If you can think of a problem that doesn’t happen everyday, it probably is in North Korea.

Interesting list. Surprised to see Samoa there but not infamous European hotspots like Andorra, Monaco, etc.

I'm pretty sure there's an international restaurant chain run by the North Korean government and I would be shocked to my very core if it's not cleaning money.

The Vatican is probably free of it. Places like Iceland are probably good too because there isn’t much stuff there anyway and it’s pretty developed.

Then again, maybe not. The Vatican is notorious for banking scandal, and to be honest, so is Iceland

The EU list is quite short in terms of nations that belong on it. Including EU nations.

A surprise? Lmao

I figured if there was a list money laundering countries that they would have already been on it. My inductive skills have officially outpaced the eu's investigative ones LOL

Let’s try to guess a country without it. What about Myanmar?
