大家好。NS有會説中文的人嗎？

我不是華人，可是我在大學學中文。我這個暑假去北京的民族大學學中文。請幫我學中文。

你們從哪裏來？我住在華盛頓。

Hi everyone! This is the Chinese discussion thread. We've had a few before and I think it would be useful to have another one. We can talk in Chinese or about various issues related to China! I'm planning on going to Beijing this summer to study Chinese.

Anyways, on the topic, I don't understand a lick of Chinese but I would definitely like to learn more about the language. Also, about how different is Simplified and Traditional?

Most characters are the same and even the different ones are often fairly similar. However, it's much easier for people who know traditional to read simplified than for people who know simplified to read traditional.

I hope you don't mind more English here, because... Yep, I can't speak.

I'm just saying it here because I have learned before... Up until Primary 3 / Grade 3. The only things I remember now are some common phrases, yes/no, numbers from 1 to 99, and... That's it, I guess.

24 would be 二十四, 58 would be 五十八, and that's it.

For someone having been living in Singapore for 12 years, I still haven't grasped Chinese yet. Or am learning.

I'll leave you guys to talk in Chinese more here, so... See you around!

对不起，我的中文不是那么好。This, despite learning it for 10 years. I hated the subject and some not-so-good teachers along the way, which may explain that. I never liked it very much, and I continue to not like it now.
At least I can understand people who speak it. Not that it helps when everyone starts speaking dialects...
