Ok but building such buildings for rich people who will never spend a day there does nothing. So you want more urban sprawl? Lets cut down more trees to build cookie cutter housing in suburbs?

It adds more houses, doesn't it?
And you say the latter like it's a bad thing

Do you just want massive communal homes where hundreds of people live in an apartment meant for 10?
Micro apartments.

It's not like the poor could afford it anyway.
The land these uber-expensive towers are built on is in areas where land is too expensive anyway. A person buying a 100$ Ice Cream is not forcing the poor to not buy Ice Cream.
Also, this is ignoring the fact that it's still building rooms for people to live in. I think what's causing the problem you're having in New York is not because of some "Ugly Towers kicking people out somehow", but rather the fact that big cities with overpopulation are a massive problem. When you have 8.6 Million people stuck inside an area smaller than Malta, you're gonna have problems with there not being enough room, resources, and money to house all of them sufficiently.

I don't know what a coruscant is.
Small price to pay to avoid cities. I don't want to be that close to that many people. That's why my 4 acres are surrounded by privacy hedges 10 feet tall, and why I make a point of not meeting my neighbors.

You don't want to build up because you hate towers, you don't want to build out because it'll destroy the environment. Where the fuck do you want people to live?

There probably is enough room to house them. There are more empty housing units in NYC than there are homeless people. But. Most of those empty units are only empty temporarily, someone is planning to move in but hasn't done so yet or there's renovations under way, and there are certainly more homeless people in NYC than can be counted in homeless shelters. But but. There's something like four times more empty units than people staying in homeless shelters. I'd say that there's a good chance that there's enough housing for all the homeless. What's lacking is the political will to actually do this.

Coruscant is a planet/city in Star Wars. A city that covers the whole planet. An ecumenopolis.
