I always thought there's 3 ways to deal with them:

1. Make a culture that is against sex offenders.

2. Kill them!

3. Have schools teach about rape.

What is your personal opinion on how to deal with them?

Get rid of the term sex offender and then deal with each case on it's own.

Paedophila and Hebephilia are simply other flavosr of sexuality. If we can accept that these people are just born this way and don't choose to be sexually attracted to children, maybe we can get people to come forward and find solutions instead of feeling like they need to hide who they are becuase of angry mobs with torches. This would mainly apply to either people who have never acted on their desires or whose acts were things like viewing kiddie porn (not making it just possessing already existing stuff).

Flashers and other exhibitionists can be treated like any other public nusiance rather than being branded in the same category as rapists. Same with young adults who have consentual relationships with people just on the other side of consensual age from themselves. Not 40 year olds sleeping with 13 year olds here, but a guy 21 who is dating a girl of 16 isn't necessarily a dangerous criminal who needs to be monitored for life.

Rapists of any kind (including pedophiles who actually act on those desires with children) should simply be classified the same way you would any other serial offender. Lock them up until they can prove they are no longer a danger (assuming they ever can).

even once you factor in the difficulty in measuring true rates of recidivism, recidivism rates are significantly lower than is commonly believed by the media and general public and sex offenders overall have a relatively low reoffending rate. the number of people getting rearrested for another a sex crime consistently lies somewhere between 5% and 15%.

While I agree that those doing...undesirable acts in public should be given a misdemeanor and be treated as a public nuisance, the first paragraph is rather...off.

Sexual attraction to children is not a good thing. It is a severe mental condition, and needs to be dealt with accordingly. If you do not act on it, yes, you should get mental help (and good quality mental health at that considering the condition) but if you even remotely act on it you should be harshly penalized.

And things like being attracted to people of the same gender or wanting to change your own gender used to be considered "severe mental conditions" as well.

1: With the exception of central Asia the entire world is culturally against sexual assault. So that part is done.

2: Killing them is a terrible idea as people have an ability to lie. Sex offenders are a broad range of people. Remember that woman who flipped out on a 6 year old because his mother's purse touched her butt? If there were no camera that little kid would be dead in your world.

3: Moral values are the domain of parents. Parents may choose to defer to religious institutions but public schools are a terrible place. They did that in Nazi Germany btw. Look it up.
