Except the example you gave had nothing to do with identity politics as you defined it.
No, it's part of it. It does involve a political alliance of activists (many are probably of a particular minority) to promote their agenda, and they supposedly speak for marginalized groups. Just because the school took care of it because it went overboard into stupidity, doesn't change that.
