There is a difference between News and Propaganda. Hindsight isn't quite 20/20. So try to be in the moment. For instance I might say the title of this thread is clickbait maybe dogwhistle, or I might say they're good marketing like the buzzwords I'm using. Ultimately my point remains the same. "We're all a little racist and it's on each of us as individuals to be less awful to each other. Failure will inevitably doom the species as a whole."

Context is the utmost important thing. Anyone who is offended by that photo I'm going to assume has a hamster wheel inside their brain. No hamster in it, just a still wheel.

Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

These days it feels like people spend 4 hours skimming through Tumblr until they come across some 16 year old's blog that says some stupid shit like "Mountain Dew is racist because it's named after moonshine and moonshiners are descendants of people who owned slaves!" and the blog has like only 2 comments exclusively composed of poop emojis. And then 10 minutes later it's all over Reddit and Breitbart reading "Liberal media and globalists say soda drinkers are white supremacists, they're teaching this on college campuses! You could be jumped and stabbed to death by antifa if you drink soda in public!"

Woodfiredpizzas wrote:So recently a reporter who happened to be black entered a restaurant that had a picture of coal miners at the pub after work, unwashed. Their faces were black from soot and this reporter instantly ignored the context of the photo and decided it was blackface. And racist. And newsworthy.

Friends said, “It’s coal miners at a pub after work.” It was a photograph of coal miners with blackened faces. I asked a Latinx and white woman for their opinion. They said it looked like coal miners at a pub after work. Then they stepped back, frowned and said it’s men in blackface.

So NSG does context matter when it comes to declaring racism?

Personally context is king and this is a very silly reporter.

http://archive.fo/i4lVr

https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/www.was ... f_amp=true

Sure Context matters. But it can change a lot of things. Even beyond what the maker of something intends when they make a piece of art. I disagree that's what happened in this case by intent in itself ain't magic.
A person having admitting their irrationality isn't that silly. His assumptions and feelings are based on exaggeration, granted. But wile criticism should be applied context matters in making it.

Another example of missed context.
Well if Phoenix art galleries have low or no black artists("In the art" is more abstract than you are giving credit for) it leaves curator with few choices to educate people on black art.
But because i didn't believe out the gate that the author is a cretin so i must be wrong. /s

You would be correct, but here is where you are wrong...

It's not some edgy teenager on Tumblr, it's actual adults (often journalists or editors) on the opinion sections of well-known news sources.

This. I'm sick of having to constantly care what race someone is and what point they're trying to prove because frankly, it doesn't matter. This might sound hippie-ish, but I'd like to see people treated fairly regardless of whether they're white, black, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, etc., and have discrimination, hatred, and the so-called "race card" go the way of the dodo.

While i disagree with his assessment going "Nuh-uh" at it isn't a good argumentation.
The writer knows "It's just coal suit" but has his own context on why that it reads and feels like racism.

It's understandable that he did a double take. Where he went wrong, like so many people do, is to assume that the world should care enough to need respond to his every minor discomfort and ensure that he - as he is - never encounters something with which he is uncomfortable.

He should work on perfecting himself by working to understand why he jumped to these conclusions and continued to feel angry once he knew they were misplaced. He should not share those conclusions with the world, give them a value that they do not deserve and imply that the world should do something about it for him. That seems arrogant and faintly narcissistic.
