World Health Organization says "Anti-Vaxxers are a threat."

Anti-vaxxers are among the top 10 health threats facing the world in 2019, the World Health Organization says.

The movement against vaccinations has taken hold in a number of countries, including the United States. The percentage of American children aged 19 to 35 months who have not been vaccinated has quadrupled since 2001, according to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, Newsweek reported.

A growing number of people in many U.S. states are anti-vaccination, according to a recent study in the journal PLoS One.

"Since 2009, the number of 'philosophical-belief' vaccine non-medical exemptions has risen in 12 of the 18 states that currently allow this policy: Arkansas, Arizona, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Utah," the study authors wrote, Newsweek reported.

Well guys they finally did it! The Anti-Vaxxers have grown in numbers and now WHO is finally seeing them as a threat to global which is a good thing in my opinion. These Anti-Vaxxers are a real threat to the entire population.

Thanks to them influenza and measles are now common epidemics within the United States when years ago they weren't that big of a problem. Honestly I think its stupid that the Anti-Vaxxers would risk their child's life and the entire community just because they believe vaccines can cause "autism" even though doctors have been studying vaccines for years now and there is no proof of vaccines causing autism.

Besides being autistic is alot better than suffering from a virus that can easily be prevented with a vaccine.

Now that I have said my opinion on this matter, what do you have to say NSG? About the growing numbers of Anti-Vaxxers?

Do you agree with WHO or with the Anti-Vaxxers?

I agree with the World Health Organization.

Anti-Vaxxers are a deluded bunch that all need mental health treatment for their psychotic delusion.

Vaccines are not what cause autism. If any of these fools ever read a genetics textbook they would know it’s caused by genetic duplications or deletions.

We should declare war on them.

You're underestimating the sheer magnitude of their delusion if you believe reading a book or even going to a class will turn them around. They're like flat earthers, they'll just deny everything.

Of course they're a threat. They are the reason why there are children still contracting preventable diseases and dying from preventable diseases. Education doesn't work, because these kinds of people are either too ignorant or mistrustful of proper science, so the only way we can ensure the safety of these children and of wider society is through state coercion. Australia has the right idea.

Anti-Vaxxers are themselves a plague. There is no excuse for putting whole countries at risk of contracting long-eradicated diseases, none at all. I have my differences with WHO, but this ain't one.

Anti-Vaxxers are a massive health threat. This thread is just preaching to the choir. Time to institute mandatory vaccinations to protect the rest of us.

I agree with you on that statement even if they did read a book about genetics and the causes of austism.

They would just say

"Oh this was old research done in the past! We have new research from Facebook now!"

I highly doubt that anti-vaxxers would be participating in the forums of an online nation-building game, even if it was made to promote a book of a dystopian overly-controlling government. Cool news, though- looking forward to increased initiatives to curb antivax influence.

Who knows this might be the first time NSG agrees on something without causing a debate though I may be wrong.

But I'm glad the people in this thread have common sense when it comes to vaccines being important to the entire human population.

Believe it or not, I don't want to die of measles or become disabled by polio.

I remember the good old days when people accpeted science as fact and not fiction I do miss those days when everyone understood science and didn't see it as a evil force.

Its a sad day that the ideas of pseudoscience has taking over the minds of humans.

Given that anti-vaxxers are allowing the resurgence of diseases that where close to being completely controlled....yeah I see them as a danger.

Pseudoscience is the reason why we have Anti-Vaxxers in the first place.

And you wonder why humanity is going backwards instead of forwards.

Its a shame really, but if Anti-Vaxxers think that autism is the worst thing to ever get then oh boy they should really do some research on the Spanish Flu, Smallpox, and Polio. Those three viruses destroyed entire communitys even lives!

But thanks to vaccines we were able to prevent them and even destroyed Smallpox in the process.

Vaccinations should be mandatory unless you have an allergy to the vaccine.

The other top 10 global health threats include: air pollution and climate change; non-communicable diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes; global flu pandemic; antimicrobial resistance; Ebola and other highly dangerous pathogens; weak primary health care; dengue; HIV; and lack of access to basic health care.

Anti-vaxxers are as big a threat as cancer... I'd say finding a cure for cancer will be far easier than convincing stupid people they should vaccinate their kids.

^^

For herd immunity to function, well over 90% of any given population must be immune. Some people cannot have vaccinations, and so it is vital that everyone else does. Even as a devout and practicing christian, I think religious freedom be damned on this one. Nowhere in the bible does anyone say "don't get needles".

Then we force them to.
