The best thing about this prediction is that it is always relevant and always correct until the heat death of the universe, but by then, there'll be no living things that care.

The arctic thawing is now seen to be more severe than previously thought and it will drive climate change at an accelerating rate. I believe that within the next 5 years the rise in inclement weather will become conspicuous enough that the world will have to admit the reality of it. This will probably take center stage in world affairs. There will be diverse responses to it - some people will insist on immaterial causes, some people will insist that it can't be stopped without an unreasonable sacrifice of their material prosperity, and some will call for society to mobilize in order to retool and adapt to a more dangerous world.

Against the backdrop of this, people who are unstable psychologically and emotionally will be triggered to radicalize and their already thrill-seeking impulse to act out will be aggravated, causing attention-seekers to engage in outrageous public disturbances, vicious displays of grief/sadism, and politically myopic attacks of terrorism. This will in turn prompt a hardening of mainstream views on politics and probably encourage a retreat into draconian and exasperated philosophies of policing and law and order. Given that these are short-sighted and emotionally-charged, they will (obviously) appear as unreasonable and full of holes to a large swathe of society, and in general the latent malice and hostility of Western society will begin to rise. This is not to write off the populations which will probably seek retreat into communism and pseudo-monasticism as an escape from the darkening world situation. But in general, given the outburst of antisocial behavior which will surely accompany to arrival of a quasi-apocalyptic world climate, people will be faced with the reality of dealing with life-or-death threats to themselves and their family like never before. Attempts to rationalize a mostly private and laissez-faire society like we have in the US will probably begin to struggle against the backdrop of extremism and significant portions of society may very well lose faith in it. Meanwhile, on the other hand, proposals to wrangle society into a more secure quasi-police state will trigger hysterical fear and outrage, stalemating the whole question of how to stop an increasingly sadistic and not-conventionally-human underclass of thrill-seekers.

I just finished listening to JFK's moon speech.

The optimism of the times was truly breathtaking. People actually thought society would get better.

We're not going to control the pandemic!

It is a slaughter and not just a political dispute.

"The scraps of narcissism, the rotten remnants of conspiracy theories, the offal of sour grievance, the half-eaten bits of resentment flow by. They do not cohere. But they move in the same, insistent current of self, self, self."

The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

For me, I think that the future would be cyberpunk. Technology advances way too much, and way too quick. The problem would be that, while technology advances, the mind of the general populace don't. And as a result, technology would be sold as a cheap cost, which will result in it getting to the wrong hands. Genuinely curious of what other people think the future is going to hold for us.

I think it all depends on China. This is China whereto is now shifted the center of science and technology, this is China where, choking on smog and dying from cancer, hundreds of millions forge the future of the planet.
This is China, where ancient religions gracefully decorate life, and do not dictate to people what to do.
It is there that people implants gadgets that arent endorsed and genetically modify children so that they cannot get AIDS. (But the BBC is all writing and writing about the "sale of organs" in the PRC, although now it is cheaper to print human organs).
It depends on China and only on China whether the 1960s will return with the competition of two political systems, with freelove without fear of dying, with safe electronic pleasures instead of drugs - or we'll fall in the 1930s with economic crisis and mini-hitlers as leaders in every country.
Nuclear war? No, war cannot be nuclear, because any war costs very much money, but no one can benefit from nuclear war.

The US government going bankrupt from being unable to pay off its massive and growing debt, triggering a collapse of the global economy. Climate Change destroying thousands of dollars worth of infrastructure and rendering dozens of species extinct. Millions will lose their jobs and livelihoods. A crisis of meaning in western society will result in increased suicide. Global overpopulation will be a huge issue. The power of the state will continue to rise. Insane maniacs will program A.I. to carry out terrorist attacks and fight wars.

But hey, we'll put a man on Mars. :)

Considering that in human civilization's ~10,000 year history there have only been 20 years worth of total peace (No wars or conflict whatsoever), it's not impossible, just incredibly unlikely...

If the info Future Timeline collects is to actually happen, then the 2020's and 2030's are going to be bloody miserable, but everything should level out by the 2040's/50's. At least for humanity that is, rest of the planet won't be so lucky though...
