Every story he makes himself out to be the moral high ground. Make of it what you will or maybe compile all the contradictory reports.

Between the cameras, racist statements by his group, and the sudden approach without any attempt at dialogue I'm having a hard time believing this wasn't supposed to be anything but looking for an incident. I think the idea was that Phillips, a native and veteran, would walk up doing his peace chant, and get harassed or attacked, and then it would be a surge of support for native rights and a swell against Trump and the border wall.

He didn't try to stop the confrontation, he didn't try to get to the Lincoln memorial, he didn't look for a way to retreat; he just stood there drumming and chanting. It's entirely possible that this was perfectly innocent and Phillips just made a series of dumb decisions but just like if someone stumbled out in front of an expensive looking car and then sprawled out on the ground untouched it looks quite a bit like some fuckery is afoot.

If this was a video of Phillips walking up and saying "hey I'm a Native American veteran and I don't think you should be fighting with these people" and then the kids started jumping, chanting, and standing around him there would be no question they were being racist and harassing him.
