I kind of agree with the hot take that ran around a lot that the main problem wasn't necessarily the kids so much as whoever was chaperoning them and did nothing to resolve this mess without causing a scene. You'd think their chaperones would have been ready and capable, given that the kids were there to attend an anti-choice rally, which is the sort of thing that is almost inherently synonymous with tense situations.

I mean, if you're walking into a group, beating a drum and chanting, you clearly are looking for a reaction from it. It doesn't look like the kids did any harassment neither apart from not moving when he tried to force his way forward.

He wasn't walking "into" a group though, he was just walking in the groups direction - he didn't push himself in or force himself forwards, the kids moved to surround him when he was a few meters or feet from the nearest. And screaming at / flailing around in front of somebody is at best really obnoxious and dickish, though I'd certainly call it harassment.

Just as others have stated, he made a beeline for the group and played his drum. In fact, he stopped meters from the group (roughly at 1:12:35-36), but then he moved forward (roughly 1:12:40-41), as per his feet moving forward, to less than a meter in front of them (roughly 1:12:50-51, though the camera is pointed elsewhere for a time and he could have come to that point earlier), they parted a little for him, people came to see the spectacle (and some probably wanted a better view), including his own friends in the other Native American activists and the Black Israelites. This means that he, indeed, did move forward walking into a group and was surrounded by them and his own supporters; this is even funnier, because Mr. Phillips made no attempt to escape. What the students weren’t doing, however, was harassment. Mr. Phillips approached them and came less than a meter in front of them drumming his drum, not a few meters, not stating a word, and they began to mock him, as people do. This is not harassment. Mr. Philips tried nothing to deescalate the situation, did not say a word, only played his drum and did so, in other videos, a few inches front of a kids face. Is that not obnoxious and dickish at best, and harassment at worst? I know the stock answer, though, that he had a punchable face.
