It's better to separate them, the art is not the artist.
When people who wished their dad could be like Cliff Huxtable insist that Cosby must be innocent that is them failing to separate the art and the artist. The Cosby show was great, Bill Cosby's work normalized black people and had a genuine effect on society. You can acknowledge and enjoy these things without for a moment doubting that he is a genuinely monstrous person.

I can't say I'm all that familiar with him or his music. I've heard his name before, and I'm sure I've heard his music at some point, but I couldn't even tell you what genre he does. *shurg*

I worked in a record store in the 90s during his heyday. This is literally the only song of his I can identify. Though since I listen to jazz and not pop radio this really isn't some sort of proud distinction. It's like saying, "Thing I don't pay attention to is also thing I can't identify shocker."

EDIT: I mean, for all his prominence the only Kanye West songs I can identify is the one that goes "yonyon yonyon yonyon yonyon yon" or whatever, something about a gold digger, and the one where Zack Galifinakis did the music video because I like Zack Galifinakis. Doesn't mean that Kanye doesn't penetrate the culture or I'm 'above' his music, I'm just somewhere else. And old.

All I remember is that he pissed on underage teens and seems to have built up a reputation as a Grade-A douchecanoe, with credible allegations that he has done some seriously fucked up shit, including from his own daughter.

Well, yes, but the flipside is that if you're paying for said art by whatever means, you're putting money in their pockets and generally likely making it easier for them to do whatever shitty things they're doing. Kelly was in a position to take advantage of all those girls because he was a famous musician because people liked and paid for his music.

The whole 'Never meet your heroes' thing, because it just ends up tainting everything when you find out about all the ugly shit underneath the persona.
