It’s because the campaign battle AI thinks in formations instead of monitoring their actual units, and those formations tend to keep the general close by the troops. Problem is that cavalry naturally moves faster than anything else so sometimes the general leaves their other troops in the dust and then the AI probably notices nearby enemy troops and says fuck it charge.
Online battles are much more rewarding
It was funny because I was tweeting about it and my tweets went in this order:
"Shit my entire army stumbled upon a French army, move away!"
"Wait shit that's Napoleon, what if I killed him - imagine the slap to French morale!"

But during that, people were telling me to kill Napoleon and others were telling me I couldn't do it. One person said "Napoleon gonna make you his b****"
