Except violent video games are something that contradicts the verses in that article. While UCG was only arguing for protecting children of it, those same verses apply to adults. Including you. By some of my old church's ministers and teachers, that was including violent video games for adults. They said it was something that "decayed the spirit" and contradicted what God wanted for us in the Bible and, thus, was a sin, as it was against God's will. My point was that by this interpretation, you are living in sin playing those games. It's not a major one, but even one unrepentant sin is not a Christ-like thing to do. So it begs the question: Are you a Christian? According to other Christians, you may not be.

Define “violent.”

The games I play don’t even have blood. At most, I only have exploding space ships.

This is the actual point of the article: “God does not want us to feel the rush of getting back at others. That only fuels the fires of our human carnal nature and enhances the feelings of power and pride. Isn’t that the mind of Satan?”

The concerns here is that children will get a vengeful attitude from such portrayals, and it apparently doesn’t so as research says. The sentiment against VG’s is a common trope amingst older Christians (baby boomers, mostly) but it is not an absolute in Scripture. The Bible’s definition of a Christian is very loud and clear, but it says nothing about seeing two dimensional starships exploding in a screen, or armies clashing.

A lot of games kids play are violent.

And you cannot ask one person to define what a Christian is. You are picking at straws there.

Yet some Christians say so. If they took your point of view, and also thought something you did was a sin, then why should they view you as Christian?

It's worth pointing out that the definition of Christian you plucked from the Bible did not exist at all prior to the 16th Century. No Christian prior to that point used it. The vast majority of historical Christians and Christian Theologians were unaware of it.

So it's less likely that you got this definition from the Bible, then it is somebody told you this is what the Bible said, and you believed them.

What exactly is so controversial about Korhal's definition of Christian?

The point is to show you that interpretation can say what is a sin and isnt. If new sins pop up from new interpretations, how many are now bound for hell in the eyes of these new interpreters

But I thought that if you were deliberately living in sin, you would most probablynot be a Christian?

Oh, I never said that Christians are perfect angels.

Games, clothing, and other things the Bible does not identify as sin are amoral (neither inherently wrong nor right). They only become sin when they are used for evil purposes like when a game is used as a training tool for terrorists.

In addition, exactly zero people in UGC said that playing violent video games means that you are excluded from the elect. If it is a sin (it isn’t even from the perspective of I, a Calvinist that is officialy evangelical), it would be a sin that is unknowingly committed, which is different from deliberately living in sin. Key word: Deliberate. You know full well that being a promiscious penetration addict is bad, and yet you continue to revel in it while claiming being a Christian.

Or, you read “Thou shalt not murder” from the Ten Commandments, and yet you proceed to purge the Jews from Rhineland.

As long as one believes in the core doctrines that are identified as identifiers of a Christian in the NT, they are most probably saved. When you are living in sin deliberately, you probably with a probability of 75-99% or so aren’t one.

Yeah I thought it was bizarre. Mind you, the Bible has similar strange language to it, vis-à-vis Ezekiel 23:20.

This being of the presumed human race's management of rather considerably immense and sophisticated wording of an English, a language derivative of the Germans which is a language derivative of the Indo-Europeans, origin is unfortunately considerably problematic due to my average-sized cranium organ that manages the numerous individual, yet associated, components of my body also known as The Brain.
