No your acting like it's a metaphor. What it simply is is god acting like a power mad dictator and punishing all of humanity for the actions of two.

Matthew 5:8 "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God."
No one can see God unless they are pure in heart, and in order to be pure in heart, you need to believe and trust in Jesus. Believing is seeing in this situation.

And you don't see the flaw in this logic?

To be fair, old testament God was kind of just like that. He mellowed out when he sent his son/himself (but not really) to die for our sins.

It is a metaphor. That is the point. You're as bad as the televangelists. At least sophisticated atheists recognise much of the Old Testament as poetic stories and tales written to be just such.

Not really given that it is the new testament that bring about the idea of hell, Satan being god's opponent, and the entire fire and brimstone ending.

Oh, that reminds me - God/Jesus is a paradox. To be both yourself and your son, you have to go back in time and perform carnal acts with your mother, but you wouldn't exist unless you had done so before you existed.

God himself calmed down, the writers of the Bible ramped it up to 11.

Though from what I know the brimstone interpretation of Hell didn't really kick off until the Great Awakening and Puritans attempting to regain lost congregations.

So free will exists in heaven, but people are not sinful. So why did the all powerful god not make that the base state where free will exists but people are not sinful outside of heaven?

From what I know/remember, the Lord isn't the Son and neither are the Holy Spirit. However, the Lord is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. The same God.

There's plenty in the Old Testament, but it is important to remember that with Christ there is a new covenant.
