I agree. I'd rather fight, and die knowing I was trying to free my country, then run, and know I did nothing.

Taxes take priority over unrest/regime change; if I received a tax bill over 90% of my income I'd be tempted to run (but probably still wouldn't, considering the relatives, friends, and connections I'd have to abandon).
The only way I can say for sure I'd leave is if the government started persecuting people for their religion. I can tolerate anything dictator does until he decides that a man's most private beliefs - his faith - is illegal. Then it's time to go somewhere else.

Than unlike the Soviet Union and Eastern European communist states as practiced the world over, than unlike China, Vietnam and North Korea.
Even than unlike Venezuela under Nicolás Maduro.

I honestly don't get the "Capitalist Dictatorship=Good, Everything left of Centre-Right=Bad" mindset people have. A capitalist dictatorship at the end of the day is still a dictatorship.
On another note, you saying Cuba and Vietnam are as bad as Stalin, Mao, and the Kims is in my opinion extremely insulting to the victims of those regimes. I won't speak for Cuba but Vietnam is a nation actually to care for it's people after centuries of invasions and a decade long blockade while the later three are state-capitalist tyrannies (just flat out capitalist in China's case) that blatantly lie about being in any way socialist and behave no better than the West, and Trump LOVES that. He loves China and North Korea not despite being "Communist", but because they've completely abandoned all pretense but the name for the pursuit of power and greed.
You believe that Castro destroyed Cuba, fine, you know what you saw while living there and obviously hated it. But to believe that a dictator (or even a wannabe) who's blatant purpose is the pure pursuit of profit at the expense of everything standing in the way is any better, than I don't know what else to say to you.

That’s an... odd fantasy. For me it would be gathering my friends and family and sneaking our way into Canada. And maybe then I could finally be a Mountie.

Well I know you are joking,
but technically Yiddish not Hebrew is an official language there (though almost nobody there actually speaks it). The Jewish Autonomous Oblast is most notable for having almost no Jews.
Besides I though this thread was about LEAVING dictatorships...
Plus many Chinese do want it back.
And if a war was to break out between Russia and NATO the US and Canada would almost certainly launch attacks against the Russian Far East.

Apparently the JAO is pretty independent and life there is pretty good XD I haven't heard anything to the contrary in what I've read about it.
Granted, why the fuck Putin would care about the ass-end of Siberia is beyond... Anybody, really.

Well sure I doubt Putin cares to micromanage it so long as it pays its tribute.
Still I doubt political freedoms are particularly good, and probably run as a fiefdoms by local oligarchs.
Who certainly do care.
