What's the most recent thing you've tried?

Postby Tasuirin » Sat Jan 05, 2019 6:07 pm

The human experience is, in my opinion, about trying new experiences and learning from those. Some go very well, such as discovering a new food or trying a new activity that you would do again. Others don't go so well, but that's what it is to be human - some things go well, others don't, and it's the learning from that which allows us to grow as people.

Every time that we try something new, we deepen our experience of the world, we learn something new and we use our innate human curiosity to determine whether we should do something again or not. And if we do want to do it again, that's great, and if not, also great - we've defined new limits that we can work off into the future.

So, NSG: what is the most recent thing you've tried, what was it like, and did you enjoy it?

For me personally, I found red currants in my local supermarket, so I decided to buy a punnet of them. Turns out, they're really nice. Quite tart in taste, with a bit to be desired in texture, but I'd definitely eat them again. Would recommend.

I tried on a new pair of jeans. They were comfortable. I wouldn't say that I enjoyed it, it was what it was.

I recently entered an exercise regime based on swimming, and it sure feels great so far.

Recently got into some new music: Mongolian folk metal and a few Native American songs.

Well I'm really into Icelandic classically-influenced indie-folk rock/chamber pop, so for specific genre names, I'm your guy.

But Mongolian folk metal does sound cool... Might have to try that.

That said, Mongolian and northern Amerindian music often includes throat singing, so I can see a possible reason why you like both? I don't know, though.

Throat singing mixes well with metal, and that is part of what I like about the Mongolian stuff; but the Native American stuff I've been listening to is mostly Peruvian and does not have throat singing.

Ah, right. I've heard the Inuit do a lot of really good throat singing. Not a fan myself, but I can see the attraction.

Traditional Mongolian throat singing isn't really my thing, but it works better when you add a nice guitar riff. Plus some of the videos have a cool aesthetic that's like a weird mix of Genghis Khan's cavalry and a biker gang.

Ah, yes, I like the interplay of old and new that goes on in a lot of folk-metal. Very cool!

Also trying a new exercise regime that focuses more on body-weight exercises and less on weightlifting. It's horrible but it's supposed to feel that way. I've been using dumbbells too much, which are great for isolating muscles but can also leave parts of the body completely untrained.

Swimming is great in that regard, probably one of the best forms of exercise.

I went down the rabbit hole of fallout 3 modding. Sad to say that 90% of what's out there is crap.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.
