Okay, the troll's gone. That's okay. Now I suppose we can get back on topic?

I personally don't have much of an opinion on Bolsonaro, as I don't know much about the guy. However, I do like his right-populist position & his support for capitalism (Including his stance on socialism). I do look forward to seeing him put his agenda into action; Maybe he'll be the one that'll push Brazil into Superpower territory.

Well, I'm not here to beat a dead horse. I would like to see a Brazil that is more aligned with the US, opposed to Communism, and a strong supporter of nationalism.

That appears to be what Bolsonaro is sold as, but reality will be what reality is.

Brazil is far from a world problem. It really seems things could be heating up in Asia. Foreigners who have been living in China and love China are starting to leave in good numbers. The government there is making things very difficult for foreigners when it comes to paperwork and some other things. Things in China have changed since the new Pres. took over. Nationalism against foreign people is showing its face in China. In a new years speech, he even mention his intention of getting Taiwan back with China. They say getting back Taiwan is his main priority. In the meantime time, Taiwan is arming up.

Pardon me, Your Grace. The user in question was egregiously violating forum rules by his "racism is good and moral" nonsense, him posting deliberately misleading and extremist sources, blatant trolling and refactoring other users's comments in quotes with the intent of libel, or to put it simply, plain thread derailing and being a annoyance. I accidentally let myself get carried away by the relief of seeing the madness ending and thus made the "Spring has come, peasants rejoice" message. I didn't intend to gloat over someone else's disaster, nor did I want this to happen, but what happened has happened, and nobody can turn back time. My apologies, Your Grace. *Genuflects*

The Pink Tide is a term specifically referring to Latin America. You might find it helpful to know what you're talking about before attempting to debate on it.

The "Pink" and "Blue" tides are all part of a cyclical occurence anyway. It goes in the vein of this: Rightwing government suffers a economic recession due to a stock market crash or a economic bubble by deregulation, severe austerity, devaluation of the currency and slashing of the social safety net follows, thus increasing unemployment, poverty, and dissatisfaction with the government, a popular wave of discontent causes governments one by one to fall and be followed by leftwing "pink" social democratic governments which cancel austerity, restore the benefits, pass measures intended to lower income inequality and modernize infrastructure, provide healthcare for all, reduce poverty, fund small businesses, etc etc, until a corruption scandal at the highest echelons of the financial sector and government (Think Lava Jato in Brazil) is revealed to the public, causing mass closures of infrastructural projects across the nation as they were funded by Petrobras, the same oil company financing em and implicated in the scandal, wave of arrests and dissolutions of firms causing havoc on the economy, putting hundreds of thousands of civilians out of work and thus onto the street, escalating crime rates and terrorist attacks, thus lowering financial confidence, leading to the impeachment of the corrupt president from office and then leading to widespread public dissatisfaction, which in turn leads to the upset election of a typical rightwing figure the likes of Jair Bolsonaro, and then repeat ad infinitum.

That is the Latin American political cycle in a nutshell, and it will remain so for the foreseeable future. Don't expect any tide to last forever, whether it is a conservative "blue tide" or a progressive "pink tide".

Calling Brazil Anglophone is a bloody insult to their origins.

It's Lusophone, and Lusophone only.

Brazil is not Anglophone.. I know that. Anglophone refers to Trump, Brexit and some of the good work done in Australia. Anglophone isn’t really an insult as such, linking them together is a nod to England’s oldest ally: Portugal, who is in turn, Brazil’s mother.

Well, now I expect that Jair Bolsonaro knows the seriousness of having the Presidency in his own hands. He might act less crazy and perhaps more good-hearted throughout his presidency. But he might have a hard time trying to pass through new reforms in the Congress, if he doesn't find allied parties.

Also, as Bolsonaro will now pull back restrictions on gun ownership, will his opponents be allowed to own arms? Because maybe some will form guerrillas or resistance groups. Anyway, Brazil is embarking on an interesting journey...........

Ah, yes, because when it's blatantly clear that the vast majority of the Amazon is being destroyed for agricultural reasons, that nothing says, "environmental protection!" quite like putting its protection under a ministry dedicated to furthering the goals of agricultural production.

That's indeed happening, and blame the previous decades of other governments which, despite having enjoyed 40 years of direct democracy, left 4.5 million sq. kilometers worth of rainforest to be protected with half a billion dollars. Besides, when two or more ministries fuse, all of their responsibilities are mashed onto one -- ergo this move wasn't a destructive one at all.
"but hnnng bolsonaro is destroying the amazon" you can do better than that

That, or productivity. Though yknow, people usually prefer to have $15k extra in hand instead of working five less hours a week.

Bolsonaro has its good and bad sides so it is still early to make good judgement about him. On one hand he seems to be on the right track but the same time shows neocon features. The good sides is preventing sexed in schools, fighting corruption and violence, saying the truth about the Brazilian millitary rule which was one of Brazils golden age; the neoconish sides is his pro-market stance and his devoutness to USA as opposed to Russia or China.

Even despite his bad sides Bolsonaro is the first right-wing experiment since the 80s and before him there was no alternative to the left establishment. A Brazilian nationalist and pro-souveregnity right needs more time to develop.
