Jair Bolsonaro declares Brazil's 'liberation from socialism'

Postby Gospel Power » Fri Jan 04, 2019 10:35 am

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/ ... -president

The new president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, is known for his statements about militarism and his anti socialism statements.
after being sworn in as the country’s 42nd president, he announced Brazil's “liberation from socialism, inverted values, the bloated state and political correctness”.
What would be the future of Brazil in your opinion under Bolsonaro leadership?.
According to his vision for Brazil, will he improve the nation or not?.
I don't know a lot about Mr. Bolsonaro and his vision for Brazil, from the little I know about him, I know that he is a right winger and wants to improve the Brazilian military, he oppose socialism and thinks that capitalism works better, some women said that he is encouraging rape, I don't know if this is fake news or not.
And finally he survived a knife attack.
How you think Brazil will look during his leadership according to his statements and opinions?.

First parts of the article:

"Jair Bolsonaro has announced Brazil’s “liberation from socialism, inverted values, the bloated state and political correctness” after being sworn in as the country’s 42nd president.

His words delighted a crowd of more than 100,000 – many of whom had travelled to its modernist capital for the event, convinced the far-right populist can rescue their troubled country from virulent corruption, rising violent crime and economic doldrums.

The former army captain and his wife Michelle waved to crowds from an open-topped Rolls-Royce before he and his vice-president, retired army general Hamilton Mourão, were sworn in at congress.

Woman who Bolsonaro insulted: 'Our president-elect encourages rape'.

In a brief speech to the chamber of deputies, Bolsonaro thanked God for surviving from a near-fatal knife attack during the election campaign and invited lawmakers to help Brazil free itself from “corruption, criminality and economic irresponsibility and ideological submission”.

Re-allocating money normally given to wide swaths of the population in order to stir innovation and infrastructure? Sounds like a recipe for innovation to me. Corruption will be the issue that gets in the way of that goal, however.

The economy will probably get better, but civil rights and similar stuff will decrease. That's not a very astute answer, but oh well. I don't really know much about Bolsonaro.

Instead of throwing labels and insults let's look at his policies and what he wishes to do to Brazil.

It's a good answer within the "NationStates" system.

Economy goes up; Civil Rights decrease; Wealth Gaps increase; Welfare decreases; Rudeness goes up

Thanks. I'm not sure how rude the Brazilians are going to get, but from the limited right-wing regimes I have looked at, the economy seems to do better under them, and then, as I said, civil rights decreases a things like traditionalist values become more prominent.

This guy is exactly what Brazil (and the rest of the world) needs. The right needs more Trumps, more Bolsonaros, more icons that lead and inspire the right to band together. United we Stand, Divided we Fall!

The government apparatus in countries like Brazil is corrupt to the bone, it cannot be fixed by reform, tougher laws or strict law enforcement. It requires systematic purging, downsizing, restructuring and liquidation of bloated agencies, often through near-authoritarian means, over a very short period of time so that corruption networks cannot adjust. Of course, all of this must lead to an efficient and transparent government which then prioritises spending to improve national demographics, which are the basis of any economic growth.

Frankly, Bolsonaro doesn't seem like a person who can do that.

He seems a lot more like a guy who would increase spending in unreformed sectors like security, resulting in deeper entrenchment of specific factions but no overall improvement in public order. Likely to cut funding in other sectors without offering those affected any other options, causing a load of social issues.

This nation does not reflect my RL views.

Figures like Trump don't exactly unite the right wing. I'm of the traditional right wing, and I'm not fond of Trump. One part of conservatism is moralism, and Trump is no paragon or virtue.

I support Bolsonaro's war against socialism. Socialism is a terrible ideology and economic system.

They require the rights to exist. Not to be jailed for their orientation.

The claims that he is going to gut LGBT rights are utter nonsense. His policies are to cut the sex ed programs here, as he thinks that such graphic subjects should be handled by the family, not the government. This was bloated as an attack against the community by the opposition.

It sounds like you're saying, "I don't know anything about him, so based on this opinion, I know we don't need more of him."

If you're saying Brazilian LGBTs are being jailed, it's for one of two reasons. Either there is an enshrined law in the Brazilian judicial system that allows for their arrest because of their orientation, or widespread persecution of LGBTs is a result of non-judicial discrimination. If it's the latter you're talking about, it's not the State doing the discriminating. If you're implying that the State is oppressing LGBTs, then that is a result of corruption in the system as they deviate from the written laws. That would be corrected by rooting out corruption.

Brazil’s new president removes LGBT concerns from human rights ministry

Brazil’s new right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro removed concerns regarding the LGBT community from being considered by a new human rights ministry hours after his inauguration, part of a sweeping set of executive orders targeting some minority groups.

Bolsonaro stripped LGBT concerns from the ministry and named no other federal agency to consider such issues, The Associated Press reported Wednesday.

The former military officer and right-wing politician made incendiary comments about race and sexual orientation during his campaign, saying in 2011 that he would be “incapable of loving a homosexual son.”

Dozens of gay couples rushed to get married in the country last month before Bolsonaro took office out of fear that he would try to limit same-sex marriage.

The newly appointed human rights minister, Damares Alves, is an ultraconservative evangelical pastor who claims diversity policies have “threatened” the Brazilian family, AP noted.

“Girls will be princesses and boys will be princes,” Alves said of the new administration. “There will be no more ideological indoctrination of children and teenagers in Brazil.”

People who complain and complain about LGBT rights makes me not want to support them just because I'm tired of all the LGBT crusaders who don't realize how good things now are. The guy is a homophobe, cool. But he has shown no intention to strip LGBT folks of their rights, and even vowed to protect gays.
