It is a well known fact by Christians that God in the Old Testament was an ironfisted, bloodthirsty tyrant, eager for vengance and retribution against those who dared oppose his will or word. However, when he gave his only begotten son to the world and the New Testament comes to play, he softened up a bit.

Actually kind of comical, but once your son is hung on a cross and pierced to death, at his own vocation and willingness I might add, it would give you a change of heart as well .

Ok, so it looks like I'm gonna have to read through the New Testament. Also, If the almighty God is so, would he not have said to not follow these rules he had laid down? The Old Testament is still his word, no? Looks like it would be "kill the heathens*!" *Not valid after 200A.D.

The serpent is not supposed to be omniscient, even if god DID mean that, how would the serpent have known, and how could he have predicted their deaths in hundreds of years? He didn't tell them to eat it, and as far as I'm concerned he did not decieve them.

Omniscience has nothing to do with this. The serpent knew the commission, and therefore would have known the punishment since they were presented to Adam at the same time. He denied the punishment would happen before Eve.

"Eventually" bears no part in it. The penalty is the penalty, doesn't really matter if it is executed in 2 seconds or 2000 years.

You're right, he didn't say "eat this". He tricked her into wanting to eat it... As we know, even in a soceity dedicated to free speech, said freedom does not itself abrogate one of the effect of their speech, or penalties imposed. You yell fire in a crowded theater and you will be penalized.

He provided information which was not 100% accurate for the purpose of getting her to engage in actions which were damaging to her in a manner which can be nothing else but intentional on his part... there is a word for this called "disinformation", and it's a form of deceit.

Actually, since Adam and Eve didn't know the difference between good and evil until they ate the fruit of the tree, they really weren't responsible for eating it because they actually couldn't have known better. And if the Biblical character God wanted, it could have prevented this since it is omnipotent and it should have foreseen this because it is supposed to be omniscient. Instead, it gave unreasonable punishments for a crime that Adam and Eve couldn't have known was actually all that bad. This would be like executing a child for stealing when this child doesn't know that stealing is wrong and an older child told the kid that it would be ok to do it.
