Luckily, the Grand Canyon is only about 2/3s of the way through America. We're going all the way to the W E S T C O A S T

It does not matter as to whether or not it is socialism. What matters is the perception. Republicans have already started to label some Democrats as extremists or socialists.
In America, when you see legislation and proposals such as the New Green Deal or reparations for slavery, the costs and the changes scare off Independents. They will decide 2020. It is too early to start alienating that large group of voters.
I see why Nancy Pelosi is very frustrated by AOC. AOC is seen as the de facto leader of the Democrats. That will hurt Democrats and Nancy knows it.
Democrats also need to clear out the large field of candidates by the time the primaries start. They cannot afford to nominate a weaker candidate and a large field of candidates could allow that.
Perception is indeed a problem, although that won't matter much if the economy takes a nose dive, then people will accept anything even if it's batshit crazy. I should remind you that the Republicans in 2016 had a large field (17 total!) while the Democrats had at most five candidates. Guess how that election turned out. Size may have a factor but it's not definite. And independents don't approve of Trump but I'm sure they'll hold their noses and vote for him if they view the Democrat as weak, out of touch.Eternal Lotharia wrote:Welp, Merkley's probably running.
...I actually happen to like him. He's probably the most clean of all 2020 candidates who I kinda like. May end up supporting him.
Eh, he ain't running.

The press attention that she gets and her social media presence has made her the face of the Democrat Party. We see more of her than we do Nancy!
Just because all have decided to start putting needles in your AOC voodoo doll instead of your Pelosi voodoo doll doesn't make her 'the face of the Democratic party'.
Even if it were true, you still haven't proven how that will 'make them lose'. You're making a wish and hoping it's true.

It is a different race this time around. In 2016, there was mo incumbent. In 2020, there will be an incumbent. It is hard to beat an incumbent president. In the last 120 years, it has only happened 4 times (and 2 of those times a strong third-party candidacy was involved).
Aside from token opposition, I seriously doubt that Trump will be challenged for renomination. For Trump, the general election has begun. In the meantime, Democrats will be expending their resources attacking each other over the next year or so.

Court Packing would imply adding more Justices to the court, which would require changing the Constitution. Nominating and ramming through Justices without the 60 vote threshold is not court packing and is more related to the Nuclear Option. There's currently 9 Justices, Roosevelt's plan would have made it 15, which I think he would need Congress' approval anyway to suffice.
I think I should also pose this question (I'll do this a few times throughout the course of the election): will you support the future Democratic Nominee, even if you fundamentally disagree with them to ensure Trump is not re-elected?
I don't really know at the moment. On one hand, I broadly disagree with the concept of strategic voting but on the other... orange man bad.

There is no disputing it. It is happening. The media has done it. AOC gets a lot more attention than Pelosi.
How are they going to lose? It is too early to say that will happen....but the chips are in Trumps corner right now.
I have already gone into the reasons why AOC being the de facto party leader will help them lose. Socialism, New Green Deal, Anti-semitism (she is defending Omar), and I am sure AOC will provide more fodder in the upcoming months. These are going to be talked about many times between now and November 2020.

Socialism is popular, the Green New Deal is popular, and Ilhan Omar did nothing wrong.
